Autism Awareness Kenya Event, Apr 3 2011 @ Goan Institute / Pangani

On Friday and Saturday, April 1 &  2 there will be awareness stands at 11 shopping areas across the city where volunteers will be handing out flyers and will be able to answer questions.

It will all culminate in a community celebration on April 3 at the Goan Institute in Pangani (Juja Road) from 10-4 at a Free Fun Day. Kids, Parents, Friends and Family- all are welcome at the 2nd annual Family Fun Day.

Come and learn what autism is and find out what help is available. Meet parents and professionals while you browse the variety of stands. Many dedicated volunteers will be available to help with the kids. There will be a talk about autism and a parent forum.

Come and enjoy the entertainment for children and adults! Bouncing castle, trampoline, music, games and more. Bring a picnic or buy food from the food stall.

Amani Lazima meets WaPi in Kibera, Mar 26 2011 @ Kamukunji Open Grounds

This month Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with Norwegian Embassy and the US Embassy invites the public to Kamukunji Open Grounds on March 26th 2011 to enjoy and appreciate the efforts of Kibera youth in the fight against tribalism, drug abuse, violence among others during this special event dubbed Amani Lazima meets WaPi in Kibera. (ENTRANCE FREE,AMPLE SECURITY PROVIDED)

Back ground-AMANI LAZIMA: Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with the Norwegian Embassy is hosting peace events dubbed Lazima (Peace Now!) which are monthly events from December 2010 till November 2011 in some of the major slums in Nairobi. So far we have successfully covered Korogocho, Mathare and Kangemi respectively.
WaPi- (Words And Pictures) is a British Council platform for poets, fashion designers, MCs, dancers, graffiti writers, animators, cartoonists, comic book artists, artists, painters, singers, acrobats or any other sort of visual or verbal artist to showcase their art through monthly WAPI events.

Viz’ions- XP by Peter Nkoghé (Gabon): An introspective solo which “embodies the unknown visions” of Peter Nkoghé and “expresses angst and snatches of answers that are constructed and deconstructed over time.” The set design serves as a frame and surface upon which these visions are projected: images of a TV test card, filmed and abstract, of lines and shimmering water which are shown against a cardboard wall board and the dancer’s silhouette.

This is an evening that is aimed to entertain as well as give stakeholders in the audiovisual sector to exchange ideas as well as comment on short productions from East Africa; the forum shall screen two short dramas by versatile filmmakers within the Kenyan audiovisual sector.

SALOME and ROSE PETALS are short dramas that reflect the day to day life of the common Kenyan citizen. They address various issues including the collective spirit of a society depicted in the films.
Allan Aligula together with the crew and cast that worked on the productions will join the audience to field questions pertinent to the films as well as share their ideologies about filmmaking.

Lola Kenya Screen monthly film forum is the initiative of ComMattersKenya/Artmatters.info in conjunction with Goethe-Institut.

Finally the time has arrived. The new Kenyan comedy “Me, my Wife and
her Guru” will be premiered on Sunday 27th of March, 6pm! As we are
always looking for new and alternative venues to screen our movies
(Wasanii bar, Umbrella music school etc) this time we chose the garden
bar “Capri 7” (Jabavu road, Kilimani) where they have every Sunday
outdoor screenings of various movies, in their big blow up screen!
This will be the first time they screen a Kenyan movie and all the
main actors of the film will be there to meet them! After the premiere
you can stay to watch “Pulp Fiction”!

It will be an evening of movies and stars under the sky that you don’t
want to miss.

A few things about the movie:
The mean judge on Project Fame and long-time thespian Ian Mbugua plays
a Hellon-type role in the new comedy “Me, my wife and her Guru.”

FILMS, the movie is inspired by all the stories related to cults, fake
pastors and finger of God type of Churches. It’s a fictional piece and
a critical view to today’s Kenyan society, starring Ian Mbugua, Lizz
Njagah, Millicent Wambui, Kevin Onyango and tight cast of comics.

SYNOPSIS

Steve (Alexandros Konstantaras) is happily married to Angela (Lizz
Njagah), a very successful and upcoming TV presenter. What happens
when his wife starts complaining about his outgoing lifestyle while in
the same time she shows unusual interest to a religious Guru (Ian
Mbugua) whose P.A. (Millicent Wambui) dances to his flute? To make
things worst Steve gets kidnapped by two not very smart thugs…
