The Sweat in her shoes: Three poets speak on the complexities of urban life
Anne Moraa, Sitawa Wafula, Phyllis Muthoni and Ngwatilo Mawiyoo celebrate their individual journeys and explore collective experiences on themes of love, loss identity, ambition and motherhood.
Anne is Slam Africa champion, Sitawa is a mental health and girl child activist, Phyllis is acclaimed author of Lilac Uprising and Ngwatilo is curator of the show and author of Blue Mothertongue.

The exhibition “Visionary Woman” features sixty artworks created by women artists to commemorate courageous, resilient, and resourceful women trailblazers. The art works will be on view from 8th March to 6th April, 2011 at the Nairobi National Museum. Acknowledging these women leaders and their deeds is essential in women realizing true equality and respect in their homes, their places of work, and Kenya’s society as a whole. Participating artist are from Germany, France, Italy, Kenya, Bolivia, Korea, Sudan and the Gambia.
The centennial exhibition is organized by the Heinrich Boll Foundation, National Museums of Kenya, Hawa Artists and Internationaler Künstlerverein e.V. I(International Association of artists)

‘Curving the Visual’, African women photograph African women
Five women photographers, Sylvia Gichia, Barbara Minishi, Wambui Mwangi,
Kasyoka Mwanzai, and Sikiliza present visual interpretation of the conditions and
aesthetics of women’s lives, women’s bodies, women’s labour and women’s world
in Kenya.
‘Colours of Kenya’, paintings by Aude Demoustier
Trained in Applied Arts and Fine Arts, Aude has been living in Kenya since 2001and shares her passion for Kenyan nature and culture through her paintings.
‘The Secret Garden’, Eco sculptures by Silvia Millefiorini
Silvia Millefiorini ‘Elfo’ shows her symbiosis with nature through her environmentally friendly art using natural material. Colourful motifs enhance her work, carrying the admirer into a world of symbolic meaning.
NB: The is a ‘silent’ auction through ‘silent’ bids of the works displayed.

6th Lola Kenya Screen Call for Film Submission
Lola Kenya Screen audiovisual media festival, skill-development mentorship programme and market for children and youth is calling upon interested participants to submit quality films to the sixth edition of the annual event that will take place August 8-13, 2011 in Nairobi, Kenya.
Lola Kenya Screen, a Nairobi-based charity specialising in issues related to children, youth, mass media, culture and development. Is accepts all kinds of moving images made by professionals, students, amateurs, youth and children that focus on children, youth and family.
Experimental films, television series, video games and even creatively packaged music videos tackling issues related to children, youth and family and that provide strong role models to children and youth while speaking positively to children of diverse backgrounds are accepted.
Selected films are showcased under various categories with those starring children aged 6-13 years competing for the prestigious Lola Kenya Screen Golden Mboni award for the best children’s film and those featuring children above 14 years competing for the Lola Kenya Screen 14-Plus Prize for the best youth film.
While the Golden Mboni has been awarded since 2006, the 14-Plus award was inaugurated in 2009.
All entries submitted must be suitable for children ages 13 and under, youth aged 14-25 years, or family (25+).
