Gogo Simo Album Launch, Sep 2 2011 @ Alliance Francaise

Gogo Simo have been performing in Kenya since 2001.  The Band is led by musical couple James Jozee and Susan Wanjiru.  The music is originally African and is inspired by a blend of rhythmic genres, including classic jazz, sega, mserego, chakacha, mdundiko and zuk.
Gogo Simo ia a Swahili word, coined from an African game similar to hide and seek.  James’ love of music can be attributed to the influence of his father – Govea Ndongo Jose, who is a well known musician of Congolese descent.  James is also inspired by the music of Stevie Wonder, Lokoa Kanza and Mzee Ngala of Bango fame.
Susan’s powerful, husky vocals make up part of the distinctive sound of Gogo Simo. Born and raised in Nairobi, she met James when they were part of one of Kenya’s most renowned bands – Safari Sounds.  After the huge success of touring with Safari Sounds in Europe and Australia, Susan and James formed their own band to further explore their passion with music.

Gogo Simo have released two albums Gogo Simo and Heshimu.  They recorded a single with Papa Wemba which appears on their second album.
Gogo Simo have performed and toured in Anjuan (Madagascar), Moroni (Comores Islands), Mauritius and in the Seychelles.  They have collaborated with Suzzanna Owiyo, Isaiah Katumwa, Ulopa Ngoma and Collo and were the house band for the hit NTV talk show Churchill Live!

Tickets are available at KShs 1,000/- from Alliance Francaise, Nu Media Store Westgate, Sarakasi Trust and from the Band members.
There will also be an in store activation for album signing at the Nu Media Store, Westgate on Sunday 28th August 2011 from 2.00pm to 5.00pm.
