Concert: A Helping Hand, Aug. 20 2011 @ Tribe

The concert will feature performances by Elizabeth Njoroge, Safaricom Choir, Paul Nduati and the Conservatoire Strings conducted by Ken Wakia. On the programme is Vivaldi’s Gloria, music from the world of Opera and spirituals and much more. It promises to be a beautiful night of music.

Tickets are Kshs 4000/- and all Proceeds will benefit the Kenyans for Kenya fundraising initiative providing famine relief solutions to communities in Northern Kenya.

Comedian and national treasure Dave Thursby has died, and on the day of his funeral, friends and colleagues gather beside his coffin to pay their last respects. There’s Harvey (Sam Psenjen), who wrote Dave’s material; VI, Harvey’s wife (Margret Karanja); Kevin (Harry Ebale), Dave’s agent, and Kevin’s wife Jane (Karimi Njagi). Dave’s glamorous young widow Laura (Angela Mwandanda) has arranged a funeral to remember, complete with a horse-drawn hearse and an attendant dog. An unfamiliar woman who has turned up in flamboyant mourning clothes turns out to be Kay(Carol Irungu), Dave’s ex-wife from before he was famous, and a series of revelations about his dubious past and recent philandering end with Kevin throwing a drink into the coffin and all the guests asking themselves if they ever knew the “real” Dave.

Slum Film Festival, Aug. 9-20 2011 @ Kibera and Mathare slums


Founded in 2011 in Nairobi Kenya, SLUM FILM FESTIVAL is a pilot film festival showcasing films made by and about slums. This innaugural project focuses on the images around the slums in Nairobi with a vision of expansion to include films from around the world in the future editions.

A positive initiative for the slums and its artists, the Slum Film Festival seeks to raise positive attention and help to shift the public perspective on the slums and the people who call them home.

SFF intends to become a platform for film production out of the slums. With awareness and awards, it will help give local film projects a leg up to reach both International and local film festival circ..

SFF kicks off on August 6th 2011 and will run through August 23rd, in both Kibera and Mathare!

MISSION: Changing our belief system is central to making any real and lasting change; we are working to shift the global picture & perception of slums through social transformation utilizing media and the arts.

The Slum Film Festival is a joint project of the Spanish Embassy (Kenya), Hotsun Foundation, Slum-TV, AECID (Spanish Agency Of International Cooperation) in collaboration with the Nairobi Art Center.

Out of town: Rift Valley Festival, Sept. 2-3-4 2011 @ Naivasha

The Rift Valley Festival will be an intimate gathering of local and international artists, combining traditional African roots and global styles.

It will provide a stage for established as well as developing talent, creating a fusion of musical influences with the very best independent acts. We will also create a platform for the exposure of local arts, crafts and culture.

The aim is to make a real difference to local communities by raising awareness and money to aid environmental improvement and community regeneration in Kenya. All profits from ticket sales will go directly towards supporting grassroots projects.
