Opera: Ondieki the Fisherman, Apr. 20-22 2012 @ Braeburn Theatre

This weekend sees the Kenyan Opera, ‘Ondieki the Fisherman’ performed at Braeburn Theatre, Gitanga Road. Composed 40 years ago by English Teacher Francis Chandler and performed at the time by the girls of Limuru Girls High School to celebrate the schools 50th anniversary, this opera is making a big return to stage thanks to the tireless efforts of Soprano, Rhoda Ondeng.

The Opera tells the all too familiar story of a fisherman by Lake Kisumu, who ruins his life, and that of his long suffering wife, through drunken reckless behaviour. Rhoda has put together some of the best soloists, choirs and orchestra members, some who have travelled from as far as Sweden and Norway.
