The 2013 Spotlight on Kenyan Music journey continues along the Kenyan coast and will culminate in the production of Vol. VI.

This month’s concert brings on stage the Mombasa based artist Nyota Ndogo, with her taarab influenced pop music, the Mwanzindika Drummers from Taita Taveta county with their special healing and exorcism music using the kabunde and kengele drums, and the njuga (leg rattles), the Nyenyezi za kambe group from Rabai with their Kayamba music and dance and Nairobi Melody with modern day taarab, a blend of classical traditions rooted in rich Swahili poetry, local melodies and rhythmic beats.

Monikos restaurant is in Valley Arcade behind the Java Restaurant. Tickets costs Kshs 1,500. The dinner will include a buffet meal, short remarks by prominent Kenyans including Suzanna Owiyo and Gitu wa Kahengeri on the spirit of Nelson Mandela and a presentation on the rejuvenation of the school.
