From Fossils to 4×4’s is an on-going series of work by London–based artist Catherine Morland that references Britain’s colonial past, the symbolic presence of the ‘development’ industry in Nairobi, and the expatriate gaze in contemporary Kenya.

The exhibition consists of an installation of drawings inspired by recent trips to Kenya. Morland’s watercolours evoke a oneric world of shifting morphing elements including prehistoric skulls, tropical foliage, night-lit gardens, security guards, historical figures, neon signage, and city monuments.

Kenyan dancer and choreographer, Fernando Anuang’a, returns to the Alliance Française stage with his new choreography ‘Romo’ (Luo for ‘meeting’). Renowned for his shows A journey into the future and Indo-Masai dance, Anuang’a teams up with the Ohanglaman Makadem (on nyatiti and kalimba) and the guitarist Isaac Gem to present a meeting of tradition and contemporary dance and music.

Anuang’a is part of a new generation of Kenyan contemporary choreographers developing a new dance language rooted in African dance and culture.

A unique spectacle where traditional Luo music and the timbre of Makadem’s voice accompany the undulating movements of Anuang’a.
