After staging a successful original rendition of Maya Angelou’s poetry in the musical The Caged bird sings, Tone Theatre productions is staging a new musical Obama -Dreams From a father the month of July (July 14-July 20 2015).
The musical written and directed by award-winning journalist George Orido, will be staged in Nairobi as part of activities to welcome U.S President Barack Obama in his first visit of the country while in office as Head of state.

According to Mr Orido, the production will be celebrating diversity and inclusivity in public affairs management.
“Since we all know Obama was elected President in a country where Blacks are a minority, the message is crucial to Kenyans who have used the ‘Tyranny of Numbers’ to discriminate a great section of society,” he explains.
The play will also carry a message of hope in the middle of despair and seek peaceful solutions to the many unending conflicts in Kenya.

Obama – Dreams From a Father will be rendered in a number of scenes abut in one act telling the story of Obama’s search for identity, his life in college and political organizing in Chicago where he launched his political career.

But most importantly it will tell a Kenyan story of Obama senior and his search for quality education that landed him in Hawaii where he met Obama’s mother.

In 2008, Orido had put together Obama The musical to celebrate Obama’s quick ascend to the most powerful political seat in the Globe.

Then Americans were in the thick of campaigns to elect a new President to succeed the incumbent George W. Bush Jnr and the excitement of the first ever African American President were high engulfing the whole world.
Six years down the line, Obama is not only credited for the dramatic economic recovery but also for a raft of legislative changes including that of Obamacare and most recently the immigration laws that would allow illegal immigrants become legit.

Obama-In the Dreams of a Father will drop colorful characters like John McCain and Sarah Plain and replace them with such characters as Birth-er Donald Trump and the 61st Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner.

Tone Theatre is known for its other past productions including Lwanda Magere, Loud Whispers, Man Na Warrruokne among other original performances.

Some of the music is original compositions by Ohanglaman Makadem, Evans Mbinji, Maestro Nicholas Moipei and diva Suzanna Owiyo.
