The dancers, led by Nick Jones and Julia Bergua from Les Grands Ballets Canadiens of Montreal, include Alexander Jones (The Zurich Ballet), Ji-Min Hong (Royal Danish ballet), Oliver Jones (Staatsballet Oldenburg) and James Lyttle and Diana Leon from the Montreal company. They will perform pieces from some of the world’s favourite ballets. There will also be music and dance performances by the Kibera Arts Centre children.

The Russian director, Dmitri Tcherniakov gives a dark modern twist to George Bizet’s famous opera ‘Carmen’. An experimental new form of private therapy for couples offers lavish role-playing sessions to refresh failing marriages. The sulking husband will be Don José; his irritating wife seizes the role of Micaëla.
Dmitri Tcherniakov was named ‘Director of the Year’ for this unconventional production by a jury composed of independent music critics for the German magazine ‘Opernwelt’. The Orchestre de Paris, under the baton of Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, gives a crisp yet fiery reading of Bizet’s dazzling melodies.

The Youth Theatre of Kenya is proud to present an original musical entitled, “Matumaini”.
Matumaini directly translates to “Hopes” in English. And this is exactly what this story tells. Set against a huge dumpsite within the slums, we follow an array of stories and a band of characters who have been tossed aside and forgotten by society…until the music changes their lives. Watch as our characters battle against drugs, gang violence, poverty and the near-impossible odds as they strive to be something more. Matumaini is a relevant, heartwarming story which aims to highlight the power of the human spirit.
