Pop Up & Chill brings together a carefully curated array of artisans and collectors for the best handmade, eco, holistic goods, inspired by Africa and majorly made in Kenya in a funky space with great music and great people. As we usually do in December, we’ll be holding the market over 2 days Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th December with over 40 vendors and 10 unique vendors featuring on each day.”

V. Y. Mudimbe is a Congolese philosopher, professor and author of poems and novels, a towering figure in Francophone African studies.

He is an esteemed scholar of literature and social sciences in the United States recognized for his essays on contemporary African thought and intellectual history.

With the participation of European and Kenyan academics specializing in Mudimbe’s thinking.

About
Michael Soi’s distinct style is instantly recognisable in Kenya. His satirical commentary on Kenyan social, economical and political life has garnered him a large local and international following. Soi began his practice in 1995, and his paintings are influenced by the history of political cartoonists in the region. This new body of work continues this tradition.

He has traveled far and wide to residencies and workshops and exhibited in East Africa, Ghana, South Africa, South Korea and U.S.A.

Teacher Wanjiku at 10, Dec. 11 2019 @ Alliance Française

Wanjiku the Teacher, Kenya’s most recognized female comedian’s career took off at the Alliance Française back in 2009 when she appeared as Wanjiku, a Swahili teacher with a deep Kikuyu accent, in the Heartstrings Kenya play ‘The 43rd Kenyan Tribe’. She returns to celebrate 10 years in comedy.

Teacher Wanjiku has recently been feted with a Lifetime Achievement Award for a decade in comedy in the USA.

The show will also feature sketches by the Alliance Française students and a guest appearance by Larry Asego.
