About Ogutu
Ogutu Muraya is a writer and theater maker whose work is embedded in the practice of Orature. He studied International Relations at USIU-Africa and graduated in 2016 with a Master in Arts at the Amsterdam University of the Arts – DAS Theatre. He has been published in the Kwani? Journal, Chimurenga Chronic, Rekto:Verso and Etcetera Magazine. His performative works & storytelling have featured in several theatres and festivals including- La Mama (NYC), The Hay Festival (Wales), HIFA (Harare), NuVo Arts Festival (Kampala), Storymoja Festival (Nairobi), Spoken Wor:l:ds (Berlin), Globe to Globe Festival (London), Ranga Shankara (Bangalore), Afrovibes Festival (Amsterdam), Spielart (Munich), Theatre is Must Forum (Alexandria), Theatre Commons (Tokyo) among others.Ogutu is a recipient of The Eric Brassem Exchange Certificat. He was recognized as a talent in the 2017- 2018 Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst – 3 Package Deal.
His latest solo performance ‘Because I Always Feel Like Running’ was nominated for – The ZKB Patronage Award and ZKB Audience Award during the 39th edition of Zürcher Theater Spektakel, in Zurich.

Said Abdallah AKA Lulu Abdallah was born in Mombasa in Likoni Mtongwe. The passion for music started very early when he used to see his father play the guitar which he later gave him as a present for his tenth birthday. From then music has been Abdallah’s passion till now.Abdallah moved to Nairobi to study more about music and that’s where his music career started. Beginning with a traditional dance troupe Abdallah started traveling abroad with different groups as a percussionist, started to learn guitar and improving his vocal ability.
Abdallah’s music is fused with strong vocals and rhythms, he sings in Digo, Luhya, English, Swahili, and little French, musically versatile from jazz, to rhumba, to salsa, to reggae, to Latin music, to local rhythms. He released his debut album Thembassa in 2014.
Lulu Abdallah is coming on with full force doing what he loves the most music…

One Off is always delighted to hold an exhibition of spectacular paintings by veteran conservation artist, Timothy Brooke, who is undeniably ‘at the top of his game’ and painting like never before.
‘Almost vanishing Africa’ opens on 29th February. This show offers vignettes of a continent undergoing change so swiftly, that much of its natural wealth will shortly be a distant memory for us; something our grandchildren will only read about.

The Swiss afro-soul singer, Thaïs Diarra, with roots in Mali and Senegal, accompanied by the Senegalese kora player Noumoucounda Cissoko, the drummer, Axel Lussiez and the arranger/producer Fred Hirschy, will be in Nairobi for a one-off concert straight from the Sauti za Busara Festival.
Thaïs has worked and toured with Didier Awadi and Positive Black Soul. She has recorded three albums with Fred Hirschy. Her style is both a subtle mix of African instruments such as the kora and balafon and influences from American soul, reggae, Senegalese mbalax and Mandingo music.
