About

2022 marks the 400th anniversary of Molière’s birth. Molière (Jean Baptiste Poquelin) is one of the greatest comic geniuses the world has seen, and undoubtedly the master of “social comedy. His plays have transcended the times and the society for which they were written, and remain as relevant today. His critical insights into human nature have gained him a lasting reputation as dramatist and satirist.

The Alliance Française has invited the Nairobi Performing Arts Studio to produce a Kenyan adaptation of Molière’s comedy of manners ‘L’Avare’ with a stellar cast including Sam Psenjen (Mission to Rescue), Angel Waruinge (Tahidi High) and Dru Muthure (Radio presenter), directed by Stuart Nash behind the hits ‘Sarafina’, ‘I will marry when I want’…

Don’t miss this Kenyan take on Molière’s comedy ‘L’Avare’. How to get a Mubaba? A critical look at the failings and foibles of human nature in our society and the peculiar behaviour of Kenyans.

Exhibition: Light And Blue Silence by Jimmy Kitheka, Sept. 7-30 2022 @ Alliance Française.

About

Through shadow and blur effects in dark blue hues, Jimmy generates representations and visions from the past evoking a sense of nostalgia. His works take us back in time, through stories told by his grandfather, that retrace the Nairobi of the 60s and 70s. Jimmy imagines himself living in those times through his paintings. His works are currently being shown at the AKKA Project gallery in Venice as part of the ‘African Identities’ exhibition that coincides with the Venice Art Biennale.

The exhibition runs until 30 September 2022.
