Out of Town: Exhibition: Neighbouring Lands by Tabitha wa Thuku, Dec. 20 2022 – Jan. 20 2023 @ Peponi Hotel – Lamu.

Dates: Until 20 January 2023

Venue: Peponi Hotel, Lamu

About

Neighbouring Lands, is selection of Tabitha wa Thuku’s (Kenyan, b. 1963) vibrant and fluid, dreamlike landscapes consists of a body of work focused on the portrayal of nature and the environment; a theme wa Thuku has been referring to in her work since she began painting in the 80s.

Her work invites the viewer on a mysterious journey through the artist’s own real and imaginary landscapes from around the world.

If you study them carefully and take time, you find yourself following her paths and streams into the depths of each painting. Tabitha often uses dark hues, reds, browns and blacks which allude to the dark side of human interference in nature.

Believing vehemently in the regeneration of our environment, wa Thuku’s uses her work to criticise the pillaging nature of our society and confirm her belief in growing and replenishing the natural world.
