Masculinity & Femininity by cultural instinct are gender assigned: men are masculine, women are not. Masculinity is a male enamored trait, and its admiration also makes it fragile. Femininity is female, soft, needed, but weak. Our social constructs depend on an incorrect gender-binary definition, but masculine and feminine is more dual than we realise. Maybe a single person can be both masculine and feminine – a concept we will be exploring through different art forms during the next Art & Poetry

The Embassy of Spain informs that the Goethe-Institut Kenya and the NBO Film Festival is presenting The Arthouse Film Society, a new monthly event that seeks to bring independent cinema from around the world to Kenya’s cinema space. The festival seeks to introduce the filmmakers to the Kenyan audience and selected filmmakers will be invited to present their works, conduct workshops and avail themselves for Q&A’s after screenings.

In this regard, the first film to be screened is “Crumbs”, a Spanish-Ethiopian Science fictional love story, directed by Miguel Llansó, a Spanish filmmaker who will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening which will be at the Century Cinemax Junction Cinema on the 14th of June at 7 pm.

Finnish rapper Signmark (aka Marko Vuoriheimo) was born deaf into a world where music is for the hearing. He pursued his childhood dream and became the first deaf rapper in the world to get a record deal. In Nairobi he’ll be performing with a famous Swedish rapper Adam Tensta. Signmark has performed in over 40 countries so far. With his music and his positive attitude the artist has promoted the rights of the disabled people in Finland and around the world.

Signmark is also a special representative of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland for promoting the rights of people with disability. Signmark states that the deaf should not be treated as disabled but as a language minority, who have their own culture and history.

The Embassy of the Republic of Korea presents the annual Korean Film Festival from 6 to 9 June at the Alliance Française. Korean Cinema has seen a spectacular boom in recent years. The Festival will open with the film ‘Train to Busan’ which premièred at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. This live-action film by independent animator Yeon Sang-ho is about a zombie outbreak on a high-speed train. It topped the yearly box office (11.6 million admissions), and made a particular impression abroad.
