Helter – skelter emanates from Paul Onditi’s previous show, Reconstruction of the Tower of Babel. It follows his seminal character, Smokey as he transitions to a new direction.
Helter – skelter is about scattered ideas around humanity, relating to socio-economic and political affairs. Immersed in a variety of landscapes, Smokey is seen contemplating on his future path.
The collection of pieces extract influence from different bodies of work, both past and present. The works are purposely in disharmony to reflect on Onditi’s practice where he uses found film, old prints, caustic acid and polyester plates to examine the human condition.
This is Onditi’s first solo show in Kenya for the year 2015.
Paul Onditi
Born in Kenya, Paul Onditi moved to Germany in 2000, where he studied art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main. In 2010 he returned to Nairobi, where he is currently living and practicing. Onditi was included in Bonhams’ Africa Now auction in London in 2013 and 2014. His work was also featured in the 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London in 2015.
The Art Space
Based in Kenya, The Art Space is an independent creative space which comprises of a commercial art gallery and alternative show spaces. Through art exhibitions and informal conversations, The Art Space allows for growth, critique and experimentation in the visual arts. The Art Space focuses on modern and contemporary art from Africa and links artists with the contemporary art market.
Karen village is hosting Colour Festival to be held on the 12th – 13th December.
This event entails playing around with colour dust. There will be different activities which are fun and exciting. This will be the 3rd edition and due to public demand it has been extended to a two day festival. The event begins at 11 AM Saturday to 4 PM Sunday.

The project WHO I AM WHO WE ARE uses art and self-expression to create spaces and conversations for personal reflection on the themes of citizenry, civic responsibility, race, belonging, ‘ethnicism’ and nationalism. Between 2013 and 2015, this project has collected archival material in various part of Kenya comprising of 80 life-size paintings called Body Maps, 1,500 voices recorded in a public installation called ‘In a Silent Room’, 9 documentaries, 80 interviews and 2,000 photographs.This first major exhibition of WHO I AM WHO WE ARE showcases a selection of these paintings, stories, recorded interviews and films creating a mosaic of voices and impressions on what it means to be a Kenyan today.

DAUGHTER FOR SALE – Synopsis
10 years after the death of his wife, Howard’s 32 year old daughter Olive has refused to let go of him. A situation that results into friction between Olive and Howard’s new found fiancée Mary whom Olive terms as common and this being the reason why she refuses to let go of her father.Their close family friend George having noticed this adds another twist to the plot by introducing Frank to Olive without Olive’s knowledge. Olive seizes this opportunity to use Frank to plague Howard. She nearly succeeds, but Frank pulls a fast one on her by turning the tables.
Howard ties the knot at the AG’s behind Olive’s back and Olive is left with no choice but to swallow her pride and marry Frank.
