About
Navrang is back with a presentation that is unique and true to fine arts of the Indian Sub-continent.

This will be an ALL FEMALE group with a lead classical vocalist and accompanying artistes. Yes, you read it correctly! – all female group. It is just unusual to see a talented lady on classical tabla, but Navrang in its pursuit to show all facets of the Indian classical music, has decided to present to you female artistes, harmonium and tabla included.

Our main vocalist is the young Kaushiki Chakraborty. An artiste among the high calibre vocalists of Indian classical vocal singing, Kaushiki was a child prodigy; she could reproduce classical vocal patterns at the tender age of two! She is the daughter/disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, a name that is on the lips of all classical music lovers world over. At age 12, she was already a scholar at the famous ITC SRA Institution of Calcutta. Her Khayal singing is highly appreciated and equally well appreciated are her Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Bhajan, etc. She represents the Patiala Gharana (School of Vocals) a predominantly male voice Gharana, but Kaushiki has tailored her style to bring feminine touch with an overt emphasis on sweetness. Folks, you will definitely hear this when you attend the show!

Kaushiki has numerous albums under her name and has recorded with A R Rahman for film Water, and in other albums shared space with stalwarts like Pt Bhimsel Joshi, Lata Mangeshkar and many others. Among many awards, she is a recipient of the BBC award for outstanding achievement in 2005.

On the Harmonium will be Paromita Mukherjee. Paromita initially started learning violin and harmonium from Padmabhusan Pt V G Jog, and completed her post graduate in violin from Rabindra Bharti University, Kolkata. She has also studied Western music at Trinity College, London. Therefore, Paromita is a well-rounded musician and you will hear her talent on the harmonium which is unmatched in many ways.

On tabla, Kaushiki will be accompanied by Savani Talwalkar. Savani hails from a musical family of strong musical background; her father and Guru is Taalyogi Pt Suresh Talwalkar, and mother, a classical vocalist – Pt Smt Padma Talwalkar, are both highly acclaimed. You will all agree not much should be said given whose offspring Savani is! You will only need to come to the show to see the talent for yourself.

On the Tanpura, the accompanist will be Meghodeepa Gangopadhay who was trained at Sourav Academy of Music and Dance from the age of four. She continued her training later under Pt Ajoy Chakrabarty and is also training under Kaushiki in vocals. A sociology graduate, Meghodeepa has embraced music and has been in the company of Kaushiki for the last fifteen years.
