The Walk With Rangers from Arusha to Nairobi will take place in June from the 12th to the 18th. Participants can choose to do either the 8- day Tanzania trek or the 7- day kenya leg, or the combined 15- day trek.

The aim is to have as many people as possible interact with rangers and really get a feel of what we endure on a daily basis.

We close for registrations for the trek on 26th may.

The walk is completely not for profit and the costings will only cover the walk’s expenses, we encourage anyone who can raise funds for the projects indicated in the e-flyer to get in touch with us for fundraising forms and letters.

PATHS AND PATTERNS
EMBODIMENT OF THE TRAVELER IN THE CONTINUUM PARADOX
The Slippery notion of predestination, fate and destiny has generated a lot of discourse based on belief and disbelief alike. While I am undecided which side I fall, I explore the most important element to the concept/discourse of destiny.

THE FEET…
The feet (chakras) chakras derived from the Sanskrit word meaning wheel. The feet is the bodily locomotive force that takes us through different paths. They retain the memory of our trails in colour, texture, wrinkle, bruises and scars.

WHERE THE HEAD LEADS THE FEET
I probably am one of the people who would gladly enjoy an house arrest…it’s my comfort zone as I do so much with solitude. My rare moments of engagement and interaction has a very strong influence on me, I tend to take this seriously. Being earth bound absolutely makes movement inevitable; the human person is attracted to motion hence the description of our lives as a Journey.
However, what informs our chosen paths differs from traveler to traveler, though there are catalysts that imparts choices like beliefs, society, faith, tradition, family… Looking through our interdependence and also the several path crossed as our feet travels on this journey; it became necessary for me to retain the memory of people I choose and sometimes do not choose to meet.

PROCESS & VISUAL OUTPUT
I consciously began to keenly observe the feet of people I meet and share experiences with…so much amazement to perceive and to also see what our bodies communicate without our knowledge. Conversations, thoughts engaged and visual projections I had at those times ; this experiences put together was used in visually recreating what I perceived in the process.

Trained as an illustrator, Kyalo’s initial work was mainly figurative and he has over the years found his Alma matter in abstraction. His inspiration is drawn from a variety of media: music, colour, light, fashion and photography. Kyalo’s paintings undergo multiple variations of colour and textural juxtapositions that are reworked until they are harmonized.
This exhibition is inspired by the instinctive travel and trade among the Kamba people, retracing the Kamba’s historical trails to the Kenyan Coast where upon they encountered portals on reaching the Indian Ocean.

At a time where the controversial Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, is running to be India’s next Prime Minister, the documentary explores the way in which his politics and Hindu nationalist ideology have polarized Gujarat along religious lines. Since the anti-Muslim riots that exploded in 2002, the Muslim minority population have been denied justice and marginalized to the ghettos.
Through the intimate stories of American-Gujarati Nishrin, whose father, a prominent Muslim MP, was butchered during the 2002 Gujarat riots, and British-Gujarati Imran, who was the sole survivor when he was attacked along with his two uncles while on holiday in the state, the film explores the minority community’s ongoing struggle for justice.

Screening will be followed by a discussion on the role of transitional justice in addressing legacies of human rights violations and consolidating democracy with Njonjo Mue, transitional justice expert.

HOUSE OF LUNGULA, will be exclusively available at www.buni.tv/lungula from May 4, 2014.

HOUSE OF LUNGULA caused a stir when it was released in cinemas last February to packed audiences in Nairobi and Mombasa. The local blockbuster, which stars Ian Mbugua, Lizz Njagah, Gerald Langiri and Sarah Hassan and is directed by Alexandros Konstantaras, is a sexy, laugh-out-loud comedy in the vein of big Hollywood hits like THE HANGOVER or AMERICAN PIE – and a first of its kind in Kenya.

But the limited theater run and great word-of-mouth left a lot more Kenyans – especially in the diaspora – eager to see the movie. From May 4, viewers worldwide will finally be able to satisfy their curiosity!

With HOUSE OF LUNGULA, Buni.tv will be piloting a pay-per-view option for new movie releases, in addition to its usual subscription model. For 150ksh ($3.99 for the diaspora), users will be able to rent the film and watch it at their convenience during a 3-day period, and without having to subscribe to Buni.tv’s monthly premium service Buni+. After the initial exclusive release period of a couple weeks, the film will become available to Buni+ subscribers at no extra cost to them.

“We have been overwhelmed by the amount of people outside Kenya requesting to watch HOUSE OF LUNGULA,” said director Alex Konstantaras. “Buni.tv created the avenue that we were looking for in order to reach those people around the world.”
