About
Paulo Akiiki is a contemporary African artist-painter from Uganda, and has widely exhibited both locally and internationally.

Paulo spent most of his youth in his native countryside, a vast area marked by varying bright, dry or lush green plains with dazzling sunlight and spectacular views on huge, shining lakes, light purplish blue skies, hazy hills and dark mountain range in the far distance. As a 4-year old boy he already started scribbling and drawing on everything he saw.

Later, Paulo pursued Painting, Sculpture and Graphics at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts of the prestigious Makerere University Kampala. He successfully, and with honors, emerged with a Bachelors Degree in Industrial and Fine Arts, in 1998.

Soon after his studies, Akiiki became a productive member of the Uganda Artists Association. He registered his own business, the Ujuzi Art Studios, in his country’s capital Kampala, and has since been practicing from there.

Wamathai Spoken Word is back on the 12th October after a short hiatus. The venue has shifted to the more spacious Louis Leakey Auditorium at the National Museum.

The event will be hosted by Sadia Ahmed. It will feature performances by Elani, Adelle Onyango, El Poet, Eudiah Kamonjo, Mwende Ngao and Raya Wambui. There will also be an art exhibition by Nduta Kariuki and Ian Weswa.

• RW2 is the second track of a suite dedicated to the Rwandese war and the subsequent exodus
• Rue des Saisons is inspired by a street of the multi-ethnic university district of Brussels

• Ascolta se piove in a solo version is a sort of monologue
• Thunupa is the title track of the disc. It surprises us with the introduction of some voices recorded in the studio, suddenly phoning friends and colleagues and inviting them to repeat some sentences of a book

This acclaimed documentary series ‘Africa(s), History of a Continent’ relives the last hundred years of Africa’s history in the voices of African personalities who in one way or another participated in the continent’s reawakening and its entry into the 21st century.
The series has been constructed from interviews with leading African personalities and from unique and previously unseen archival footage. The documentaries take the viewers back into the past of a forgotten continent, from the upheaval of the colonial era to the great experiments with democracy and African unity, passing through the ferment of independence movements and civil wars, the turmoil of crisis and cultural renewal. History of the continent told from an African point of view.
