In the dusty small town of Elandsdoorn, a South African township not far from Johannesburg, life is simple and serene. A prevailing sense of pride tightly bonds together the entire community – but beware those who step out of line … 12-year-old Chanda is a hardworking promising young student with a bright future, but her life changes dramatically when her baby sister unexpectedly dies. Heartbroken, Chanda’s mother, Lillian, in turn becomes severely ill. Her stepfather drowns himself in alcohol, leaving the young girl to take care of her two smaller siblings. Meanwhile, the formerly friendly neighbours become increasingly distant and gossip spreads.
“Auntie” Tafa does what she can to help by getting Lillian to leave town, but not even she is immune to the cloud of fear filtering across Elandsdoorn. Suspecting that the community’s irrational ostracism has to do with her mother’s illness and the death of her baby sister, Chanda demands answers but is met with stubborn silence. Searching for Sugar Man tells the incredible true story of Rodriguez, the greatest ’70s rock icon who never was. Discovered in a Detroit bar in the late ’60s by two celebrated producers struck by his soulful melodies and prophetic lyrics, they recorded an album which they believed would secure his reputation as the greatest recording artist of his generation. In fact, the album bombed and the singer disappeared into obscurity amid rumors of a gruesome on-stage suicide. But a bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa and, over the next two decades, he became a phenomenon. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to find out what really happened to their hero. SYNOPSIS
George and Seraphine run a hotel in a small rural town. Seraphine is fed up with the drudgery of her daily life, and feels that George doesn’t appreciate her. George seeks Solace with his mistress, Yvette, but she too is becoming disgruntled, living in a leaky apartment and longing for a comfortable housewife’s existence. Aramis, Georges friend suggests the women swap lives for a while, Seraphine goes to live in Yvette’s apartment and Yvette joins George in the running of the hotel.
Unfortunately for George, Yvette is not quite the homemaker that Seraphine was, soon he is pining for his capable and efficient wife. George’s Aunt Marie turns up and mistakes Yvette for Seraphine ,whom she has never met. Eventually Seraphine returns home and she and Yvette agree that they were both better off where they were. Maybe it’s George who is the real root of their problems. George agrees to go away for a while, but the question remains of who should take his place….

Recital – A Fundraising Concert in aid of the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya, May 18 2013 @ Kenton College
The tutors of the National Youth Orchestra of Kenya have put together a wonderful recital for Saturday 18th May at 4pm at the Kenton College, Gichugu Road, Kileleshwa.
The recital will feature: Karis Crawford on the Violin, James Laight on the Piano, Jenny Moore on the Tuba, Levi Wataka on the Piano and Annalee Whitehead on the Piano.
The concert features music by Bruch, Gershwin, Mozart, Bach, Brahms, Kabelevsky, Rachmaninov and many others.
Charges are Kshs 500/- for Adults and Kshs 200/- for Children/Students.
Come enjoy great music while supporting a fantastic cause.

Akili Dada, a leadership incubator for young Kenyan women, is thrilled to be partnering with Kuona Trust, a centre for the visual arts in Kenya, for a Happy Hour event on Thursday, 16th May from 5:30-8pm at Kuona Trust’s beautiful garden space in Kilimani.
In addition to mingling and enjoying the creative atmosphere of Kuona and the studios of its talented artists, a panel of speakers will engage attendees in a conversation on the theme “Arts, education, and the future of creativity in Kenya.”

VERO is a Danish singer/songwriter that draws her musical inspiration from a wide range of musical styles. Rock, alternative, americana and desert like guitar licks are spread over her first album entitled “Queen of Dreams” from 2011. Showcasing for the first time in Nairobi she will present a highly original set backed up by an international blend of musicians.
She will be supported by singer/songwriter “Bandido”. All though a one man band, “Bandido” uses loop pedals and effects to create a unique sound with inspiration from ska, reggae, alternative and pop, molding into an almost Manu Chau like sound.
