Korogocho festival is an annual community cultural event, traditionally held in the month of April by different groups of artists coming together to celebrate different talents and their diversity in Korogocho. The festival is spearheaded by the Hope Raisers (Community based art and sports organizations.
This event seeks to engage key community stakeholders and decision makers on a platform that encourages active participation of young people in a dialogue to understand the importance of arts, sports and other forms of cultural expression in the community development and empowerment.

The core objectives of the festival are therefore to present arts, sports and other forms of cultural expression; as a Tool for Safer Neighbourhoods, a creative dialogue, and an engine of social change, and as a tool for transforming public spaces.

The event shall take place in two strategic venues: the School (Ngunyumu Primary where we shall be launching a community Photo journal Sanaa Zetu and hold a photo exhibition) which is a central hub for nurturing talents and the street (Grogon close to provide international Hospital) where there will be music, cultural performances and urban  sports.

Play/Performance: Sprachkosmonauten, Apr 21 2012 @ Goethe-Institute

Being a multilingual country, Kenya is home to over 60 languages. This variety reflects the population that consists of many ethnic and linguistic groups. Apart from their mother tongues, Kenyans learn English and Kiswahili in school, and sometimes foreign languages such as German and French. Handling different languages, dialects and slangs is therefore a part of many Kenyans’ every-day life. Young people especially often find new ways to express themselves as language is and always will be a dynamic construct.
To find out how important different languages are in the lives of young people in Kenya, the Goethe-Institut is currently offering a one-week workshop “Sprachkosmonauten” to selected German language students.
Edda Holl and Helfried Schmidt, both drama teachers, are leading the workshop helping students to find interesting and inspiring ways of dealing with languages. As a final highlight, the result of their work will be shown to the public at the Goethe-Institut in form of a play.
