Exploring geological manipulation of the urban landscape, this exhibition follows the materials of Nairobi’s transformation.
An Exhibition by James Muriuki – a Nairobi based art practitioner – and Constance Smith – a social and visual anthropologist from Manchester, UK.

Through shadow and blur effects in dark blue hues, Jimmy generates representations and visions from the past evoking a sense of nostalgia. His works take us back in time, through stories told by his grandfather, that retrace the Nairobi of the 60s and 70s. Jimmy imagines himself living in those times through his paintings. His works are currently being shown at the AKKA Project gallery in Venice as part of the ‘African Identities’ exhibition that coincides with the Venice Art Biennale.
The exhibition runs until 30 September 2022.

Sarakasi za Siasa by Joseph Bertiers
Joseph Mbatia Njoroge, or ‘Bertiers’ as he is fondly known, began his artistic career as a professional sign writer. Over the past three decades, Bertiers’ lively, realistic and colourful paintings have humorously chronicled and weaved many local and international events with everyday life in Kenya.
This exhibition of his large-scale canvasses and life-size sculptures offers a satirical view of Kenyan politics over the years.
