EnglishPoint Marina is a contemporary apartment and hotel development and offers comfortable, luxurious and secure private and hotel accommodation.
EnglishPoint Marina is located across the creek from the historic Fort Jesus spectacular skyline of Mombasa old town.

The initiators of EnglishPoint Marina are now interested in commissioning three large pieces of artwork to showcase their support of genuine contemporary African art and to complement the architects design and vision of the development.

To identify artists and sculptors who are able to provide art pieces suitable for the project a competition will be held.

Open to East African artists & scuptors.

In 2009 Goethe-Institut and Iwalewa Haus Bayreuth held the large exhibition PigaPicha! about portrait photography in Nairobi. The broad scope of the show reflected the various styles and aesthetics that have evolved over the last 100 years. One of the areas surveyed was the phenomenon of outdoor photographers. Based in areas such as Uhuru Park or KICC these photographers use the public spaces of the city as their studio, using backdrops, settings and photographic techniques in much the same way traditional photo studios do.

Peter Mwangi Irungu, working under the name of Willy, was one of these photographers whose work stood out because of his imaginative and experimental use of photomontage techniques. The portraits he creates feature his subjects sitting on various buildings around the city or on a bottle of coca cola, flying through the sky or enclosed in flower petals.
For his first solo exhibition Goethe Institut commissioned Willy to produce a new body of work exploring and developing this idiosyncratic iconography.

Outspoken Presents ‘I AM’ Showcase, Sep 11 2011 @ Alliance Francaise

This is a charity show with the main stars being incredibly talented students from the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy in a one of a kind poetry-play fusion.
All the poetry in the play was written by the students themselves and you can see for yourself it is worth attending:

This is a celebration of art and so throughout the day, there will be art for the world to see. This includes:
1. Innovative Jam sessions staring artists such as Stan and Checkmate Mido where you can witness new music being born;
2. New poetry will be performed (only for this event) from your favourite performers such as Kennet B and Pepe Haze
3. Art displays of wonderful pieces that you can tour, admire and purchase – You can even participate with our unique “I AM” signature board – where you can write, sketch, doodle whatever you want on this living art piece
4. Caricaturists present to capture your essence on paper live

After the main show – there will be a cocktail hour where you can mingle and, with your ticket comes one free drink and some snacks. Food and drinks will be available throughout the day as well access to the attractions at Museum. The event starts at three with tons to do so you can bring family and friends.

Michael Soi is a member of the 2nd generation of Kenyan artists who emerged through the Kuona Art Studio in the late 1990s.
Soi is exhibiting his present series of paintings that address graft as well as a series that revolves around the denial that surrounds the existence of prostitution and strip clubs.
