In 2009, Goethe Institut-Kenya challenged Just A Band, one of our their long term partners in the Nairobi scene, and commissioned them with a video art exhibition: TRNSMSSN which turned out to be a very popular show.
Now, with many videos and the first Kenyan viral video phenomenon Makmende on their back, Just A Band is ready for a follow up exhibition with: KUDISHNYAO! The video-art installation uses 6 parallel audiovisual streams to tell stories of fate, love, deceit and escape; with a cast of dancers, lovers, terrorists, victims and survivors.
On the occasion of the opening, Just A Band will perform one of its rather rare concerts! It is also a farewell party, since Bill, Jim & Daniel depart for the US the next day, where they will also exhibit KUDISHNYAO!

Embracing Diversity is an art and dance exhibition hosted by Art Without Borders Kenya and Pamoja Dance Group. Art Without Borders Kenya is a local organization that provides art lessons and art therapy programs to the local community and to children in Kenyatta National Hospital, children’s homes, and slum-based schools. Pamoja Dance Group is a contemporary dance group composed of people with and without physical disabilities.

Lawrence Mwangi [Shabu] is a 25-year-old Kenyan artist living in Mukuru slum. He is one of the founders of the Wajukuu art project that provides Art classes to children in low incomes areas. Deeply rooted in his community, Shabu has always worked as an activist and artist, he also collaborates with the organization Art2Be working with marginalized groups using artistic and therapeutic methods to fight stigma and discrimination.
This is his first solo show. Deeply personal and at the same time very much influenced by the figure of Edward Munch in The Cry, Shabu Mwangi gives us a tale of the inside, a broken silence where the faces and the bodies do not need any narrative interpretation. The obscurity of these paintings proceeds from a personal experience and from fundamental emotions. Like an incessant path between strength, weakness and pain, these works put us in the place of the artist and the viewer, a constant reminder that our existence is very fragile.

Moses Nyawanda-Paintings
Moses Nyawanda shows his recent paintings inspired mainly from his personal lifestyle and experiences and influenced by the cubist style. He uses his art as a tool of remembering, recognizing and appreciating one’s history, as well as for keeping records for future use.
Kepha Mosoti-Sculptures
Kepha is a graduate of the Buru Buru Institute of Fine Arts. A multi-talented artist, Kepha prefers to concentrate on sculpting using mixed media. He is greatly inspired by African culture and women. He has recently been using mahogany wood to create hyper-realistic work that is quite mind boggling.
