In 2009, Goethe Institut-Kenya challenged Just A Band, one of our their long term partners in the Nairobi scene, and commissioned them with a video art exhibition: TRNSMSSN which turned out to be a very popular show.

Now, with many videos and the first Kenyan viral video phenomenon Makmende on their back, Just A Band is ready for a follow up exhibition with: KUDISHNYAO! The video-art installation uses 6 parallel audiovisual streams to tell stories of fate, love, deceit and escape; with a cast of dancers, lovers, terrorists, victims and survivors.

On the occasion of the opening, Just A Band will perform one of its rather rare concerts! It is also a farewell party, since Bill, Jim & Daniel depart for the US the next day, where they will also exhibit KUDISHNYAO!

This month Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with Norwegian Embassy and the US Embassy invites the public to Kamukunji Open Grounds on March 26th 2011 to enjoy and appreciate the efforts of Kibera youth in the fight against tribalism, drug abuse, violence among others during this special event dubbed Amani Lazima meets WaPi in Kibera. (ENTRANCE FREE,AMPLE SECURITY PROVIDED)

Back ground-AMANI LAZIMA: Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with the Norwegian Embassy is hosting peace events dubbed Lazima (Peace Now!) which are monthly events from December 2010 till November 2011 in some of the major slums in Nairobi. So far we have successfully covered Korogocho, Mathare and Kangemi respectively.
WaPi- (Words And Pictures) is a British Council platform for poets, fashion designers, MCs, dancers, graffiti writers, animators, cartoonists, comic book artists, artists, painters, singers, acrobats or any other sort of visual or verbal artist to showcase their art through monthly WAPI events.

The KFC Animation Expo is set to take place on 19th March 2011.

The Expo will incorporate a showcase of animation work by Kenyan Animation Artistes as well as workshops.

Note: Call for Entries to be screened at the Expo still open until March 16, 2011
Get your short Animation feature screened at the KFC Animation Expo!
The feature needs be at least 2 minutes long and must be family friendly. The Animation shorts will be showcased at the Expo on March 19.
The 10 best productions will get to be featured on the Animation Catalogue and the KFC Online Portal.

Exhibition: Visionary Woman, Mar. 9-Apr. 6 2011 @ National Museum

The exhibition “Visionary Woman” features sixty artworks created by women artists to commemorate courageous, resilient, and resourceful women trailblazers. The art works will be on view from 8th March to 6th April, 2011 at the Nairobi National Museum. Acknowledging these women leaders and their deeds is essential in women realizing true equality and respect in their homes, their places of work, and Kenya’s society as a whole. Participating artist are from Germany, France, Italy, Kenya, Bolivia, Korea, Sudan and the Gambia.

The centennial exhibition is organized by the Heinrich Boll Foundation, National Museums of Kenya, Hawa Artists and Internationaler Künstlerverein e.V. I(International Association of artists)

in Kenya.

‘Colours of Kenya’, paintings by Aude Demoustier
Trained in Applied Arts and Fine Arts, Aude has been living in Kenya since 2001and shares her passion for Kenyan nature and culture through her paintings.

‘The Secret Garden’, Eco sculptures by Silvia Millefiorini
Silvia Millefiorini ‘Elfo’ shows her symbiosis with nature through her environmentally friendly art using natural material. Colourful motifs enhance her work, carrying the admirer into a world of symbolic meaning.
