Date & Time: 2pm, Saturday, July 19th, 2014
Venue: Soluxe Club Lounge, off Muhoya ave, Mbabane Rd, Nairobi
China’s visible impact on urban development in Africa is substantial. One need only to take a look at Great Wall apartments along Mombasa road, or drive down to Thika Road to catch a glimpse of some of the most impressive changes brought to Africa by Chinese constructors and developers. The contractors, developers and designers from China are having a tremendous impact on African development. Will they be able to successfully export the Chinese urban model? Can China’s own experience in fast, large-scale urbanization benefit Africa? Can the Chinese prototype developed over the past thirty years simply be exported?
Following their researches on Chinese urban development issues, Urban China magazine have collaborated with Go West Project to make an issue completely dedicated to impact of Chinese Urbanism in Africa, which will be introduced and discussed upon on Saturday 19 July, 2pm.
Speakers are Huang Zhengli, Njeri Cerere, and Juma Assiago. Huang Zhengli is a PhD candidate on Kenyan cities and informal housing and editor of Urban China.
