Fashion/Charity: Style Clinic in Support of the First Lady’s Beyond Zero Campaign, May 10 2014 @ Michael Joseph Centre
What to Wear Style Clinic in aid of Beyond Zero Campaign.
First Lady Margaret Kenyatta is a lady of few softly spoken elegant words, but when she acts, she thunders. On 13 April 2014, with the health of mothers and babies on her mind, she ran for over seven hours to show her commitment. The echo of her actions and that of her team is still ringing, the echo that urges us as Kenyans own the Beyond Zero Campaign. This echo is the inspiration of What to Wear Clinic which is being held to celebrate mothers on Mother’s Day, with all proceeds going towards Beyond Zero Campaign.
The call to run came and we took it, as we continue to do so our bodies have reorganized themselves, and we have found clothes that previously fitted have now become unfit for purpose – but have they? Every morning we thunder, What to Wear!
As women and mothers we multi-task and juggle on a daily basis, that’s before juggling how the world expects us to present ourselves. We are acutely aware that we present ourselves to the world by what we wear and since human contacts have become increasingly fast in this tech savvy world, our clothes become instant language. Should this always mean spending more on clothes? Not according to fashion stylist Wanja Knighton who is a firm believer in buying less and wearing more. It is with this in mind and also in celebration of Mothers Day that Wanja is urging all ladies to take the afternoon off and enjoy a positive fashion and style filled afternoon over a glass of wine and cup of tea by attending What to Wear, Buy Less Wear More Style Clinic that will be held on Saturday 10 May at the Michael Joseph Centre from 3pm.
How to look fabulous does not always necessarily depend on how much your clothes cost, but whether they suit your bodyshape, attendees will be shown how to pinpoint their bodyshape and more importantly how to choose items that suit their bodyshape. How to Buy Less and Wear More will be demonstrated by creating a capsule wardrobe of 29 interchangeable pieces, creating different looks for different occasions. Each attendee is being requested to bring at least 3 items from their wardrobe that they no longer wear or haven’t worn for a while for our Swap, Sizzle & Share session. We will Swap with each other, Sizzle by giving the item a new lease of life using simple haberdashery tricks, and Share by making a donation towards the Beyond Zero Campaign.
The London Marathon is done and dusted, the sores are still healing and now it is time for each and every one of us as Kenyans to own Beyond Zero Campaign using our given talents and expertise to ensure maternal deaths are brought to beyond Zero.
Tickets are available through via ticketsasa
All proceeds will go to Beyond Zero Campaign
