Description
Praised as “an excellent film… about basic human dignity”, Manasseh M. Chege and Wanjiru Gathu’s heartrending movie follows the remarkable and challenging story of Julia (played by Rose K. Njoroge) a 16 year old emotionally traumatized girl being raised by a financially struggling mother and an abusive father.The film will be the centerpiece of the International Women’s Day celebrations as the world celebrates the numerous gains and progress made to combat violence against women and advocate for women empowerment and education.
Compelling, humorous, deeply human, Strength of a Woman is a story about, the power of determination, hope and the courage it takes to find your voice as Julia’s determination to gain an education and have a better life than her mother had becomes her driving force to change her life forever despite growing up in an environment of poverty and her father’s gambling, alcoholism and abuse.
The film, which won an amazing five awards at the 2014 Kalasha Awards for Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Lighting and Best Original Score stars renowned Kenyan actors with Rose K. Njoroge taking the Lead role and Laura Leila Wingate, Ashford Kirimi, Sandra Dhacha taking up supporting roles which they expertly and vividly depict.

Future Shorts KENYA is the local branch of a global short film festival. The Future Shorts Festival is the biggest pop up film festival of its kind, showcasing the most exciting short films from around the world. Since its launch in November 2011, the festival currently takes place in over 90 countries and 300 cities, showcasing a single programme of the best short films often alongside live music, DJs and art. From London to Moscow, Melbourne to Jakarta, the screenings take place across a massive network of music halls, cinemas, theatres, galleries, clubs and warehouses. Each screening is a voyage of discovery for its audience, exploring new ways for them to interact and exposing them to exciting art forms they might not have otherwise engaged with. Synopsis:
Set in a working class district of Tokyo in 1958, the year when Tokyo Tower was built. Norifumi (Tsutsumi Shinichi) runs a garage in Yuuhi-machi 3-chome. A woman named Mutsuko comes to the garage to work, but she is disappointed to find that it is such a small place. Norifumi’s son, Ippei, cheers her up by telling her that they are getting a TV at home soon. Meanwhile, the owner of the Sweet Shop opposite the garage, Chagawa (Yoshioka Hidetaka) drunkenly agrees to look after a boy named Junnosuke. Yuuhi-machi 3-chome welcomes the two new inhabitants. Everyone is in a festive mood with the coming of TV, Christmas and other happy news. The years roll by, then Junnosuke’s father turns up in town. There is already a strong bond between Chagawa and Junnosuke, but Chagawa, thinking about the boy’s future, sends him off with his father.

The Lusophone Film Fest is an English-subtitled showcase of the diversity of film production in the eight Portuguese-speaking countries. Recognised with international awards at film festivals around the globe, the cinema from the Portuguese-speaking world is still mostly unknown to the general public. This 240 million people linguistic community is a thriving one, promoting over 80 film festivals and cinema awards every year, with movies mostly consumed in the respective countries.
The seventh edition of theLusophone Film Fest will feature two shorts and one feature-length film from the Portuguese-speaking world.
Started in March 2014 the festival presents documentaries, animations, shorts and feature films from the lusophone world.

Synopsis
When Takao, a high school student dreaming of becoming a shoemaker, skips school one day in favor of sketching shoes in a rainy garden, he has no idea how much his life will change when he encounters the mysterious Yukino. Older, but perhaps not much wiser, she seems adrift in the world. The two strike up an unusual relationship through chance meetings in the same garden on each rainy day. But the rainy season is coming to a close, leaving many things left unshared between them…
