Date: August 14, 2019
Venue: Alliance Française
Time: from 7 pm

About
Don Juan has been portrayed as a sex addict, a champion of freedom or as a ‘great lord but wicked man’. Of all the manifestations of this myth, Mozart’s Don Giovanni seems the most timeless brilliantly combining stark human tragedy and touching comedy

In this new production, conducted by the acclaimed maestro Jérémie Rhorer, the director Jean-François Sivadier propels Don Giovanni through his lusty adventures at a whirlwind pace, pursued by those he has wronged.

Opera on Screen, Jul. 17 2019 @ Alliance Française Gardens

Venue: Alliance Française
Time: 7 pm

About
We will be showing George Bizet’s famous opera ‘Carmen’ in partnership with the Festival Aix-en-Provence, a leading opera Festival that has been running annually since 1948. Join us for an immersive experience to the captivating music from ‘Carmen’, in a relaxed and informal setting.

A once in a lifetime experience to catch international ballet dancers on the Alliance Française garden stage from leading Ballet companies including Zurich Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Candiens, Royal Danish Ballet and the Staatsballet Oldenburg Germany.

The Russian director, Dmitri Tcherniakov gives a dark modern twist to George Bizet’s famous opera ‘Carmen’. An experimental new form of private therapy for couples offers lavish role-playing sessions to refresh failing marriages. The sulking husband will be Don José; his irritating wife seizes the role of Micaëla.

Dmitri Tcherniakov was named ‘Director of the Year’ for this unconventional production by a jury composed of independent music critics for the German magazine ‘Opernwelt’. The Orchestre de Paris, under the baton of Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, gives a crisp yet fiery reading of Bizet’s dazzling melodies.
