Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon 2011, Oct. 30 2011 @ Nyayo Stadium

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon 2011

Date: Sunday 30th October 2011
Venue: Nyayo National Stadium

Standard Chartered Bank is proud to once again sponsor the ninth edition of the Marathon. The continued sponsorship of this iconic sporting event is a demonstration of the bank’s’ commitment to the communities, and to their cause and initiative “Seeing is Believing”.

Seeing is Believing

Like many other big marathons, Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon is a charity fundraising event. The marathon raises monies for Seeing is Believing, a Standard Chartered Bank initiative for eradicating avoidable blindness in children under the age of nine years. Through runners contribution efforts in the 2010 Marathon, over 800 children have had their sight restored. In 2011 they expect to do even better. All proceeds from the marathon registration will go towards supporting Seeing is Believing projects across Kenya.

Seeing is Believing is the Bank’s flagship sustainability initiative aimed at eradicating avoidable blindness. The challenges of preventable blindness threaten lives and economic prospects across our markets. Standard Chartered Bank’s major objective for sponsoring the Nairobi Marathon is to raise funds for the eradication of avoidable blindness among children under the age of nine years, through a community initiative called, ‘Seeing is Believing’.

Seeing is Believing is a global programme that tackles preventable and curable blindness. The program was launched in 2003, as part of Standard Chartered Bank’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Since its launch it has helped 23 million people, giving more than 2.78 million people their sight back.
