A Festival of Digital Media brought to you by the Alliance Française de Nairobi and the Goethe-Institut Nairobi, with the support of the French-German Cultural Cooperation Fund.

The online activities will bring together the international games and VR creator community from Kenya and East Africa with the aim of exploring new, creative, and innovative ways in gaming and game development.

Calls for Games demo and Hyper Talks open now for African developers only. The Hyper Talks will give 10 digital creators the opportunity to present their work in 5 minutes, be it games, animation, digital art, immersive experiences, virtual reality, or other playful media.

The Hyper Talks will be streamed live, and the Games exhibited in the A MAZE. / SPACE – a virtual multiplayer 3D game environment between 20th and 22nd November.

The 1st Showcase Wed. of the year will feature the qanun player D’Bass Ganun from Tanzania, incorporating this ancient Egyptian string instrument into the vibrant traditional music of the Ndengeleko from Rufiji.

About
Mbwana Mtulia, also known as D’bass Ganun, is a talented Tanzanian singer, songwriter, bassist and Qanun (Ganun) player. The Ganun is a 10th Century ancient Egyptian string instrument.

D’bass picked up an interest in the instrument from his late father, a Qanun maestro, who tutored him. D’bass’s Ndengeleko tribe (from the island town of Rufiji) incorporated the instrument into their vibrant traditional music to create a unique contemporary sound that delivers a memorable listening experience.

Simbin Project is an initiative of the Swiss multi-instrumentalist and producer Fred Hirschy. The strength of the project consists in bringing together the kora virtuoso, Noumoucounda, with experimental musicians, thus creating a unique mix between traditional and ultra-modern music.

This one of a kind concert in Nairobi follows on from the group’s performance at the Sauti za Busara Festival in Zanzibar.

The concert will also feature Kenya’s very own Kasiva Mutua on percussions and Judith Bwire on the nyatiti.
