Sarakasi Trust in conjunction with the Norwegian Embassy are hosting peace events dubbed Amani Lazima (Peace is A must!).

Amani Lazima is a monthly event which has been held from December 2010 and and will go on until November 2011. It has had events in some of the major slums in Nairobi. So far Amani Lazima has successfully covered Korogocho, Mathare, Kangemi, Kawangware, Kibera, Dandora ,Majengo and Huruma.

Together with on the ground stakeholders and (grassroots) youth organizations the aim is to approach the youth of the informal settlements and involve them in activities that are designed to reach out to interest the youth, create a positive attitude, generate self-esteem, promote peace and understanding, a feeling of ownership and to empower the youth on issues like entrepreneurship, violence, gender issues, etc.

Amani lazima is a monthly movement that takes place in the slums courtesy of Sarakasi Trust and the Norwegian Embassy. The movement kicked off last year in December at St.John’s grounds in Korogocho while the 2nd one was held at Depot Grounds in Mathare in January.
The main objec¬tive for this movement in all the major ‘hoods’ in Kenya is to make a positive change contribute to awareness on issues of peace, reconciliation and anti-violence, to create an alliance and feeling of belonging amongst the slum youth and above all to raise awareness about peaceful co-existence.
