Blankets & Wine XXXV with Bilal, Meet the Danes, Juliani + more, Jul 1 2012 @ Leisure Gardens

Blankets & Wine has partnered with ‘The Lounge Unplugged’ to bring you the phenomenal New York based American Jazz/Alternative hip hop singer-songwriter, musician and producer, Bilal. This amazing cross-continental sensation will be headlining the July 1st event at the Leisure Gardens, Mamba Village Nairobi.
In April 2012, Blankets & Wine put together the first of a series of musical mashups; we had Kenya’s Aaron “Krucial Keys” Rimbui co-create/re-work music with Jazz/funk artist Claire Phillips from South Africa. The outcome was fantastic.
On July 1st, we are doing it again! This time we are merging six different musicians drawn from Kenya and Denmark for the ‘Meet The Danes Mashup’. From Denmark, we have Bejamin Aggerbaek, Palle Klok and Louise Hoegh collaborating with Juliani, Winyo and Chris Adwar from Kenya. The artists will train for a week with a common band and work on a number of songs to be performed live in a grand collaboration at the 35th installation of Blankets & Wine.
Also joining us on this momentous occasion will be the incredible neo soul crooner, Stan. This brilliant performer is not new on the Blankets & Wine stage having graced us with his presence in the past.

Advance tickets for this event are available at select Dormans and Osteria outlets and online via ticketsasa.com for 1,300 Ksh., 500 Ksh. for children over 5years and free for children between 5-12 years. Tickets at the gate shall be 1,500 Ksh.

In the buildup to this event, Blankets & Wine has been running an awareness campaign dubbed The Co-Create Campaign.

The campaign will touch on all elements of the collective Blankets & Wine experience. At three and a half years, Blankets & Wine is still going strong and growing thanks to the audience. But with growth comes the inherent challenge of keeping and sharing the spirit, ideals and values of the Blankets & Wine with an ever increasing community.

Look out for daily posts on Twitter under #CoCreateBandW and Facebook, mini- clips on Youtube, and cool stickers/postcards and T.shirts.

Please also take note of our new Blankets & Wine regulations for adults & minors effective July 1st 2012.

Blankets & Wine are also broadening their scope and shall have their first ever ‘Blankets & Wine Africa Mash-up’. For their 1st mash up, they have South African jazz/soul/funk musican Claire Phillips collaborating with our very own jazz composer and instrumentalist Aaron Rimbui. They shall co-create/re-arrange each other’s music and perform this work on the 1st of April.

Their aim is to fuse Urban African Sounds with ethnic and urban Kenyan Sounds (and eventually East African sounds) with the end aim of generating club ready music from Africa with a distinct East African flavor.
