Abstract
This talk draws upon my book on the Asian (Indian) presence in and connections with Africa being published by Columbia University Press in August 2013. The book is primarily focused on the twentieth century, but it has an overarching frame that reaches to the twelfth century world of the Indian Ocean trade re-created by Amitav Ghosh in his book In an Antique Land.
Prof. Gaurav Desai
Prof. Gaurav Desai teaches in the Department of English and in the Program of African and African Diaspora Studies at Tulane University, New Orleans. His work has focused on various aspects of colonialism, postcoloniality, culture, law, literatures and the Asian-African imagination.
