Synopsis: The third installment in a popular comedy-drama series following the lives of residents of a Tokyo neighborhood, this time taking place in 1964. Shot using the same 3D system as James Cameron’s Avatar, it vividly evokes the vitality of the times by interspersing nostalgic CG recreations of the Tokyo Olympics, the bullet train soon after it went into operation, and more.
As the benefits of Japan’s economic boom begin to be felt in Third Street in Sunset Town, novelist Chagawa (Yoshioka Hidetaka) finds himself upstaged by a younger writer and falls into a slump. Then he receives word from his family home in Nagano that his father is seriously ill…

The Japan Information & Culture Centre invites you to the screening of the movie “Sumo Do, Sumo Don’t” which will be shown on Saturday, 29th March 2014.

Admission is free of charge and the movie screening is open to all film fans.

Synopsis
Yamamoto is called to the office of Professor Anayama. The professor points out the anomalous fact that even though the role says he was present at every class, he’d never set eyes on the student before. He then announces that he has been appointed Yamamoto’s thesis advisor, and points out that, even though Yamamoto has a job arranged, he needs to pass the thesis to graduate. With the power relations thus defined, he strikes a deal with Yamamoto: join the sumo club, or you won’t graduate.

The story is retold through the eyes of a boy and his dog. Following a devastating volcanic eruption in August 2000, the Noyama’s are forced to evacuate from their island home in Miyakejima. Separated from each other and their beloved Rock and struggling to adapt to life as evacuees in Tokyo, they grapple with anxiety and despair on a daily basis. But, they never give up hope of being reunited with Rock and moving back to their home in Miyakejima.
