Oasis Music Festival, Aug 20 2011 @ DC Fields, Kibera

The Oasis Music Festival will be held on this Saturday, August 20, 1-5pm in Kibera. Cost: FREE!
Exact location: DC fields on Kibera Drive, 5 minute walk from Prestige Plaza (Ngong Road).

The Oasis Music Festival is hosted by Flying Kites and GoodMakers Films, featuring hundreds of children from orphanages around Nairobi who will share music and dance performances, along with some of Kenya’s biggest pop stars including Daddy Owen, Jimmy Gait, Emmy Kosgei, MC Eric Omondiand the 2008 Malta Guinness Pan African Street Dance champions Dashy Krew.

For the past 2 weeks, children and youth from 5 children’s homes in the Flying Kites Oasis Program (including 2 children’s homes located in Kibera) have been participating in creative workshops, led by Dashy Krew and the GoodMakers Street Team, with the goal of fostering self empowerment, creative expression, and giving a voice to orphaned and vulnerable children from Nairobi. The documentary film shooting is a cross-cultural collaboration between the non-profit film production company GoodMakers Films from Los Angeles USA, Flying Kites, and Kibera-based Hot Sun Films.

There will be a special spotlight on fundraising efforts for Kenyans for Kenya (K4K). A surprise guest will kick off a crowd challenge at the festival to text donations in real time with the goal of raising US$10,000 from the expected crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 people.
