Synopsis
In Hiroshima in 1948, memories of the atomic bombing three years earlier are still fresh in the minds of the people. Mitsue (Miyazawa Rie) works at a library where she meets Mr. Kinoshita (Asano Tadanobu), a shy, young man researching the disaster. They grow close, and Mr. Kinoshita eventually asks for her hand in marriage. However, Mitsue is troubled by her memories of the bombing when she was unable to save her father, Takezo (Harada Yoshio), and her closest friends as well as the many others who lost their lives. She doubts whether she deserves to have survived. Then the spirit of her father appears before her, and asserts that she should be happy. Watching over her budding romance with Mr. Kinoshita, Takezo cajoles and encourages Mitsue into opening her heart again.

Synopsis
Makoto Konno has two close friends who are both boys in her class. One of them is Kosuke Tsuda, her childhood friend and the other is Chiaki Mamiya. It’s far better for Makoto to play threesome ball game with them after school rather than to play with girls from her class. It isn’t like they are dating each other or going steady. Their relationship is very casual and easy going. This is a time to spend a compassionate moment reserved for them. Because soon, they must decide their course of future before they become senior in their high school.

But change comes to their relationship. Makoto gained the gift to slip back into time and retrace her steps because of certain turn of events. But once she learns the way to make use of the ability, she exerts it to satisfy her day-to-day desire and discontent of everyday life with no hesitation.

Synopsis
Matsugae Kiyoaki (Tsumabuki Satoshi) was brought up by the aristocratic Ayakura family. Kiyoaki is in love with Count Ayakura’s daughter, Satoko (Takeuchi Yuko), but doesn’t know how to express his love to her. Satoko accepts a proposal of arranged marriage from the imperial family which will benefit the Ayakuras, too. Satoko writes to Kiyoaki to confirm his feeling for her, but his replies never arrive and she ends up accepting the engagement. Only after the official announcement of the marriage does Kiyoaki realize how much he loves Satoko. They begin to meet in secret, in full knowledge that their affair is doomed. Then, Satoko realizes to her horror that she is pregnant. Her parents try to force her to have an abortion, but Satoko leaves her family and doesn’t even tell Kiyoaki about the child. Kiyoaki contracts tuberculosis and although he tries in vain to meet Satoko, he succumbs to the disease and dies.

Synopsis
Komaki NAGAI, 31, was raised in the working-class Kyojima area of Tokyo. She has had enough of her good-for-nothing younger husband, Noritomo, and takes her daughter, Noriko, aka ‘Nonchan,’ back to live with her mother at the Kyojima home that she was raised in. Komaki doesn’t want to become a burden to her mother, Fumiyo, so looks for a job. But there are few employment opportunities for an over-30 single mother with no qualifications and no experience. She accepts a part-time job for the time being, and re-encounters her former senior high school classmate, Tateo. Komaki is developing a passion for Tateo, who takes her to a small tavern called “Totoya.” There, she tastes the ‘mackerel in miso’ and is astonished. The Embassy of Japan will hold a Policy Workshop on Japan Kenya Relations on Friday, March 04, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Japan Information & Culture Centre at the Embassy of Japan.

The title of the Workshop is “TICAD Process and Japanese Private Sector” and the main presentation will be delivered by Mr. Koenume Akihito, Director General, Marubeni Corporation Abidjan Liaison Office. Mr. Koenume will represent the Japanese private sector. Following the presentation will be a panel discussion.

The Embassy of Japan in Kenya would like to take this opportunity to invite you for this Policy Workshop.

Synopsis
The story mainly takes place on board the flight No.1980 bound for Honolulu from Japan. For Suzuki Kazuhiro, the co-pilot, this flight is the final test for his promotion to become captain. For Saito Etsuko, a newly recruited cabin attendant, this is her memorable debut on an international flight. However, the aircraft hits a bird soon after takeoff and the aircraft is forced to turn back to Japan due to technical failures. Then they are faced with yet another challenge – difficult landing conditions due to an approaching typhoon. They manage to overcome the challenge with the help of instructions issued by the operation control center on the ground. The young crew in aviation-related occupations grows in experience after this bittersweet but fulfilling flight.

Synopsis
The family of Hirayama Wataru, a business corporation executive, consists of 4 members, his wife, Kiyoko, eldest daughter, Setsuko, and second daughter, Hisako. Hirayama sympathises with Fumiko, the daughter and only child of his close friend, Mikami, who without the consent of her parents has set up house with her lover. But he does not agree to his own daughter Setsuko’s sudden request to marry a young man named Taniguchi. Hatsu, the owner of a ryokan style hotel in Kyoto which Hirayama patronizes, has comes across a marriage proposal for her daughter, Sachiko, and has come several times to Tokyo for consultation. Sachiko sympathises with Setsuko and helps to push along marriage plans for Setsuko before Taniguchi is transferred to Hiroshima. Hirayama vows he will not attend the wedding ceremony, but his wife finally persuades him to attend. On a trip to Kyoto, Hirayama hears from Sachiko that Setsuko is saddened by the cold attitude assumed by her father. Hirayama feels sorry for is daughter and feeling somewhat sheepish over his previous obstinacies, he heads for Hiroshima where his daughter is living her married life.

Synopsis
HIROSHIMA in the early summer of 1945, was a city, like many other Japanese cities, surviving the ravages of war. The tower of Hiroshima castle rises to the blue sky.

NAKAOKA GEN is a normal, active young boy, who is a second grader in the local elementary school, and is living with his parents, an older sister, EIKO, and his younger brother, SHINJI. Although poor, they are living as well as they can, by supporting each other. GEN’s father, DAIKICHI, is critical about the war and always tells his children that they must live strongly, like wheat plants which grow even though they are trodden. His pregnant mother, KIMIE, although very hungry herself, gives up her sweet potato, because her children are begging for food. GEN is proud of his family and is looking forward to seeing the new baby who is expected to be born soon.

On August 6th, carrying atomic bombs, the U.S. bomber Enola Gay takes off from Tinian Base and sets a course towards KYUSHU. Because of the cloud cover, the original target city of KOKURA is spared, but Hiroshima is chosen as the alternative.

This story reveals not only the tragedy and the fear of the A-bomb victims, but also how the boy named GEN survived the desperate times, without a loss of faith in humanity, and without bitterness.

Synopsis
After WWII, Lieutenant General Okada Tasuku (Fujita Makoto) is on trial accused of executing American aircrew who carried out indiscriminate bombing towards the end of the war. As his wife Haruko (Fuji Sumiko) and his family observe in the public gallery, Okada, together with his chief defense counsel, Featherstone (Robert Lesser), insist that the indiscriminate bombing by the Americans was against international law. Regarding the trial as a “legal battle”, Okuda continues with his testimony to take full responsibility and to protect his subordinates. His attitude gradually moves American prosecutors and the judge. Okuda insists that execution was the punishment according to military discipline and not retaliation, but he is found guilty.
