About the artists:

Both artists graduated from the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP) of the Mexican National Autonomous University (UNAM).  Martha Delgado is from the Education Continues Program and was a student in Maestro Ignacio Salazar’s workshop, and Casandra Sabag has a degree and postgraduate studies in Visual Arts; both are in search for the consolidation of a visual discourse that defines their identity as producers. The quality accomplished in their recent work is evident. In Contemporary Art, the elimination of a representation has become a norm and has been replaced by the presentation of objects in a way that illusion has become an exception in this context. In their journey, these artists intend to recover the representation of an image by means of the reappraisal of paintings. Even though each artist has their own plan, they both make use of photographic resources as an auxiliary tool for the development of their work, creating diverging paths.

The Lake Basin Art Group (LBAG), is a unique group of artists who come from the lake region, Western part of Kenya.
The group has an amazing blend of numerous talent, from painting, sculptures, installations, jewelry, dancing, photography, interior designing, graphic designing, printing and basically everything that involves creativity. LBAG is fortunate to have established, emerging students and upcoming artists as members from both genders.

The Lake region is known for its rich culture, traditions, folklore, the ever amazing scenery, social and economical activities that influence and inspire most of our works, from the Lake Victoria, Fisherman, Bodaboda, Kit Mikaye, Lwanda Magere, Hyacinth, Ohangla, Kisii Soap stone and the list is endless, hence the never ending variety of our creations.

LBAG have successfully had group exhibitions across the country. They have exhibited in Kisumu at the Kisumu Museum, and in Nairobi at Aga Khan hall, Mwangaza Art school, Nairobi National Museum and the Village Market.

Exhibition: Message Stick: Indigenous Identity in Urban Australia, May 24 – Jul 1 2012 @ Nairobi National Museum

The Australian High Commission in Nairobi will be hosting an indigenous art exhibition at the Nairobi National Museum.  Titled Message Stick: Indigenous Identity in Urban Australia, the exhibition is a selection of works by 11 Indigenous artists living in urban areas throughout Australia.
Drawn from the active urban art scene in Australia, the exhibition features a selection of significant works by artists at the forefront of contemporary arts in Australia and there is a deep sense of grieving, dislocation and loss yet also offering humour, energy, optimism and most importantly, a moving political and social perspective of Australian history by indigenous artists.

The opening of the exhibition is on Thursday 24 May from 6.30pm-8.30pm at the Nairobi National Museum.

The Research Institute of Swahili studies of Eastern Africa (RISSEA) is a directorate of National Museums of Kenya. It is now offering Swahili classes in Nairobi at the National Museums of Kenya Headquarters.

The Institute offers Four Modules:-

Teaching will be conducted on Swahili grammar and phonetics depending on one’s level of proficiency in Swahili.
