Mel gets the axe as the company starts to trim the payroll. His wife takes a job to tide them over, and then she too is sacked. As if this weren’t enough, Mel is fighting a losing battle with the environs of life. Maisha Yangu is a performance about life in the streets. It is a story depicting a young girl who is forced to live in the streets and how she manages to survive. The actors are 4 children and 2 young adults. The show went on a tour around Sweden from April 7th to May 7th 2011. These children from Dandora, even though they are not professionally trained, have an excellent natural ability to communicate through drama and dance.

As serious as the story sounds, it involves lots of laughs and scenes that urge us to make the lives of street children in Kenya better. The story reminds us that we can’t move forward until we take care of our children.

Written and Directed by Ms Kajsa Dahlstrom – “Mama Kajsa” – actress and president of Globetree, a Swedish NGO. Globetree invited Maisha Yangu to tour Sweden for one month this year and has been invited back for another tour next year.
