Having had a successful ran of ‘What Happens In The Night’ that saw the company stage it late 2017 in Nanyuki and Nairobi and in April 2018 – Prevail Arts Company stages the play’s final show at 3pm, Sunday 13th – Braeburn Theatre, Gitanga Road.

The news makers go home too; the media personalities, the artistes and the leaders – those expected to give commentary on the times. What happens when the scandals they investigate and instigate follow them home? Roy is having a tough time at work as a news anchor, he lives with his sister Ng’endo, a nurse who has her own issues to handle. Don their father, an ex politician might have gotten himself in some murky business. Will their family and relationships stand the storm that hits their home? A riveting drama about a prominent family trying to balance their personal baggage with being in the limelight, while interrogating the on-goings of Kenya in frustrating times.

Peace And Love is a collage of poetry, music and dance – which invites the audience to find, understand and celebrate the self in order to enjoy peace and love with life and each other. The journey through each of the forms in production (poetry, music and dance) trails the story of coming of age from a point of pain, loss, despair and confusion to a point of clarity, growth, hope, peace and love. The production is a metaphor for different stories of our times; from personal experiences, the economy and state of affairs, to corrosion of culture and morality. It all culminates in a powerful resonance with the need to keep hope alive, the need to seek forgiveness and growth, the need to foster peace and love.

The Prevail Arts Company production features poetry written by Joan Sikand performed by Nick Ndeda, Fridah Muhindi and Laura Ekumbo. Live music performed by Serro and Checkmate Mido that borrows a lot from the seventies retro culture webbed together by contemporary dance by Bridgetta Ikwara. The production is produced and directed by Kigondu Martin.

Our lovely collage of Poetry, Music and Dance is back! After our run at The Tribe, we are back with the show as a valentines special.

We stage it Casual Bites Coffee House, Westlands on Sunday 12th Feb at 3 pm.

Somewhere between an Agatha Christie mystery and a Hitchcock thriller, spine-tingling Revenge is hilarious yet wonderfully spooky with a good, heart thumping scare… starring Kenya’s superstar actors.

Solicitous husband, Ben Kambi (Nick Ndeda), has decided to take his wife, Kathy Kambi (Fridah Muhindi), upcountry to recover having been discharged from a mental hospital. The situation gets even worse when Hilda Kambi (Liz Ngugi), Ben’s beautiful but manipulative sister arrives. Ben had invited her to help patch up the toxic, deeply-entrenched differences between the two women he dearly loves. Hilda is, however, hell-bent to destroy her sister-in-law. Both women set to outdo each other as they compete for his love! Soon Kathy finds herself tormented by strange sounds in the night, and visions of the vengeful ghost. Is she having another breakdown? Is someone trying to drive her mad? When she tries to defend herself from this apparition, events take an unexpected turn in a night of unimaginable suspense.

Amusingly clueless but extremely heartwarming neighbour, Derrick Karani (Xavier Nato) arrives on the scene. Derrick, who continues to show up at suspiciously appropriate moments, is drawn into the web of conflict…or is he the one fanning it?

And then suddenly the quarrels between the two women explode into violent murder. This appears to be an open-and-shut case of vengeful murder. As the story unfolds, it begins to look like a well planned scheme… and someone somewhere is cleverly orchestrating it as more deaths are witnessed…But nothing seems to be what it is and the ending is as shocking as the story itself!

Between an erratic wife, a suspicious husband, an abnormally hilarious neighbour and a sinister sister-in-law, who will be the last man standing? Deceit, false identity and frenzied cover-up ensue as the drama reaches fever pitch. In fact, the play lathers it on so thickly, that one doesn’t really know whether to laugh, or …be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Romantic fling with cleaner lands doctor in hot soup!

Trapped is a hilarious audience-pleasing fast-paced comedy. Its physical over-the-top makes our last show Dangerous Affairs seem like a prayer meeting by comparison. The comedy is starring Kenya’s superstars directed by Mbeki Mwalimu. The setting of Trapped is a medical hospital. A doctor (Nick Ndeda) is practicing the lecture he will deliver to an assembly of fellow gynaecologists in less than an hour. The speech’s success is vital to his career.

Interruptions abound. First it’s various other medical staff rehearsing their quartet dance routines for the Sakata Dance Competition (i.e. the cheeky Nigerian doctor played by Maina Olwenya; tough talking matron played by Yvonne Carter; the temptress – sexy and alluring nurse played by Lulu Wilson and the new intern doctor played by Henry Gitau Ngogoyo). Then a long-ago ex (Wangari Gioche), who was once a cleaner at the hospital, brings the news that she gave birth 16 years earlier to the doctor’s daughter (Janet Kirina) and that the daughter is in the hospital in search of Dad! Yes, there is his harsh wife (Rosemary Waweru), and she knows
nothing of the past liaison!

And in the spiraling chaos of deceit, false identity and manic cover-up that ensues, the mission is to avoid the daughter, pacify the ex, keep the chief specialist and hospital deputy director (Derrick Amunga) at bay and fend off various distractions, among them a patient from deep in the village excited by the goings-on (Johnson Chege) and an inquisitive police officer.
