Craft Afika’s – Afrika Handmade Symposium Pre-Launch Event, Aug. 14 2014 @ Shalom House

AH launch invite
Craft Afrika will on 14th August, 2-5pm, host a pre-event launch for the annual Afrika Handmade symposium.

About Afrika Handmade symposium
Afrika Handmade is developed as strategic activity under our market development program. The 2 day event, scheduled for 2nd-3rd October 2014, will seek to generate visibility for the contemporary craft and design sector in Kenya, thereby opening up new market opportunities especially at the domestic and regional levels.
It will also provide a rare opportunity for multi stakeholder discussions on a range of issues surrounding the craft and design sector in Kenya.

Entry to the launch event is free, though registration through this link is advised http://bit.ly/1sMTTgm.

JT June2014

Jumpstart Thursday, Jun. 12 2014 @ Shalom House, Ngong Road

JT June2014

The copying of designs in the craft and design sector is nothing new. In fact, the habit has become so deeply entrenched that many designers have resigned themselves to this fate- sooner rather than later.

Internationally, we witnessed the kiondo and kikoy being ‘stolen’. What could we have done differently? What CAN we do differently to protect our cultural heritage, our designs, our intellectual property?

One of the most powerful yet least understood option is copyright.

The Kenya Copyright Board [KECOBO] is the government body charged with ensuring that the rightful owner of a design enjoys the accruing benefits.

This June 12, 2-5pm, Craft Afrika and KECOBO team up to bring you an insightful discussion on copyright – what it means, what it applies to, how much it costs, other people’s copyright and how to manage it.

It will be an eye-opening, empowering discussion. You want to be there.

Entrance is free, though registration is a requirement.
