About
HE Dr. Christian Turner is the recently appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Kenya. This will be his first time at Storymoja Hay Festival

Dr Turner was previously the Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, where he had responsibility for all UK policy and operations in that region. Prior to this he served variously in the British Embassy in Washington, as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister and in the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit.

They will be joined by Dr Christian Turner, former Director of the Middle East and North Africa in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Dr Turner is now British High Commissioner to Kenya.

Reading Revolution – a World Record Attempt, Jun 16 2011 @ Nyayo Stadium

Storymoja Publishers is planning a World Record Attempt on 16th June 2011 at Nyayo Stadium from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. We will be gathering 25,000 Kenyans to break the record for Most People Reading Out  Loud in One Place. The record is currently held by Turkey at 22,000 people. We encourage all Kenyans to attend this event and help smash the stereotype that Kenyans don’t like to read!

Dr. Najma Dharani will hold a talk on Medicinal Plants of an East African Region, their importance, traditional uses & conservation.

Dr. Najma Dharani holds a PhD degree in Plant and Environmental Ecology, and is currently a lecturer in the Dept. of Environmental Science at Kenyatta University.
She is also the author & photographer of Field guide to common Trees and Shrubs in East Africa and Field guide to Acacias of East Africa

She will also Launch her New book called ‘Common Antimalarial trees and Shrubs of East Africa’
Other Books authored by Dr. Dharani, which will also be available for sale on that day
