An immersive photographic exhibition/installation by the photographers Adji Dieye (Senegalese/Italian) and Thandiwe Muriu (Kenyan). The two artists explore contemporary African imagery through both a critical and an aesthetic lens.

Adji Dieye
Adji’s Maggic Cube series investigates the notion of branding and its impact on society via the prism of the ubiquitous stock cube used in West African cuisine. Through her projects, Adji Dieye addresses the visual representation and commodification of identity while critiquing cultural norms and stereotyped gender roles.

Thandiwe Muriu
Thandiwe’s Camo series is a vivid and playful display inspired by African fabric. The Camo Series is derived from the word camouflage and refers to how easily we can hide / loose our identity and sense of self in our culture. Camo is a visual celebration of the unique beauty of the African woman.

About
Prompted by the increasing international recognition of African artists, Prokraft Africa embarks on a journey to celebrate African talent by holding its first art gallery – the gravity art exhibition.
as a complement to the commercial advertising field, Prokraft aims to revive the art-exhibiting and art-buying culture across Kenya, the East Africa region and Africa, by publishing and selling exclusive artwork produced by its artists. With space gravity, Prokraft Africa also seeks to establish a platform to challenge and inspire creatives by holding themed art galleries.

Black – the exhibition

The exhibition features artwork from Prokraft Africa talents Jeffrey Otieno, Joe Makeni, Mutua Matheka, Osborne Macharia and Thandiwe Muriu. Prokraft has challenged the talents to create a minimum 5 pieces each, defining black from their perspective, while remaining consistent to personal style of work. Each of the pieces will be produced in a limited edition of 10.

PAWA254 and Photographers Association of Kenya (PAK) present photographs by the 50 finalists from the inaugural ‘Kenya Photography Awards’. The winners were unveiled at a gala dinner at the KICC on November 26, 2013 in the following categories: News, Daily Life, Creative, Portraiture, Nature, Sports and the Most Promising Young Photographer.
1281 entries were received across all categories.

The Photographer of the Year award went to the Reuters’ Photographer, Thomas Mukoya, who won the Sports Category and was runner-up in the Daily Life category.

Other winners include: Georgina Goodwin (News), Thandiwe Muriu (Portraiture), Joe Kiragu (Creative), David Mutua (Daily Life), Karim Kara (Nature) and Thandiwe Muriu and Louis Nderi (Young Photographer).
