Yaba is a prolific upcoming musician and performer who has graced both big and small stages to provide entertainment under a genre of music called Rhumbacane.

The genre has inspired an event series called Ibada Ya Rhumbacane usually hosted at The Alchemist in Westlands, Nairobi.

On the 5th of February, the series will be hosting its 6th event with theme of ‘A Month of Love’ to celebrate both the Valentines theme of the month and Yaba’s love and appreciation for his craft and fanbase.

The Music concert will be featuring a line up of nine artists including a live band and DJ performances.

The artists featured will be: YABA. Steph Kapela, Dj Shikkiey, Le’ Laika, Apesi, Coster Ojwang and three curtain raisers.

‘Rising Fast’ explores the changing realities of Nairobi, Kenya, one of the world’s fastest growing urban spaces. Contrary to reductive stereotypes of Africa, Kenya is riding a strong economy, a youth-driven cultural awakening and a dynamic tech scene coined the “Silicon Savannah.” Huge challenges remain however: widespread poverty, poor infrastructure, human rights abuses and political tumult. Does the “Africa Rising” narrative hold up, and how are people’s lives being impacted on the ground?

There will be 12 photographers from across Africa sharing their work as well as a discussion panel led by Nabila Alibhai, founder of Kenya-based cultural lab in COMMONS.

JAZZ ATTITUDE is Nairobi’s newest Premier Jazz Series that features stellar performances by incredible Kenyan Live acts in a Jazz themed setting suitable for the whole family.

In this Special Edition “2.5” we are proud to present our first International act, Legendary Kora innovator and Virtuoso SEKOU “KORA” KOUYATE. The Guinean Kora master has been dubbed the Jimi Hendrix of the Kora by several elite music magazines and reviewers. He’s won several awards for his Albums including the Gold Medal at the Global music awards. He is also part of the renowned West African band “Ba Cissoko” that has toured the world extensively.

“Sekou ěs sound, mode of playing and the invention of the electric kora, has inspired a whole new generation of kora players. Today, Sekou Kouyate is considered among the world’s finest kora players.”

His band is Joined by three Incredible Kenyan bands. The dynamic and afro fused Jazz sounds of Shamsi Music, the ever green modern pop fusion of Tetu Shani and a debut performance by one of the most Viby sounds in Nairobi today, Yellow Light Machine.

These amazing musicians will take over the band stand from 3pm till 9pm in what will surely be a thrilling Sunday event.
