About
Phiri explores the concept of ‘Freedom’, using an approach that challenges the co-existence of different forms and the fusion of different techniques and materials; a reflection of the realities of life.
The artist challenges the debate around the ‘freedom’ to co-exist with the opposite elements in society and the respect accorded to these elements.

Phiri presents a body of work that may be interpreted in different ways and he welcomes the audience to explore their personal views.The exhibit is his reaction and contribution to a topic that influences many, ‘Freedom’.

This will be an absolutely unique opportunity to develop your sculpting skills from one of Zambia’s most recognized sculptors,Tom Phiri. This 4 days intensive workshop is a beginner’s class in stone sculpting and does not require previous knowledge in sculpture.

About the artist
Tom Phiri is Kuona Trust’s current artist in residence. Phiri launched his artistic career in 2003 and is one of the founding members of a group of stone sculptors going by the name Roots of Xpression, currently based in Lusaka. Find more information more here.
