TRIBAL CHIC 2019
Tribal Chic is an annual charity fashion show held at Nairobi’s most prestigious 5 star boutique hotel – Tribe.

With its unique architecture and inspiring interiors, Tribe echoes the true image of Nairobi; a hip, dazzling, sophisticated and creative city. Tribe’s events showcase only the best local and international talent, while supporting causes that enrich the lives of the less fortunate.

Tribal Chic 2019 will be the 10th annual fashion show held at the hotel and is aimed at recognising and appreciating fashion both locally and internationally. We look at giving up and coming local designers a chance at showcasing their talent as well as combining it with established designers. In the past we have worked with Masaba Gupta, Adele Dejak, Penny Winter, Mille Collines, Nike Kondakis, Mateene Kahindo, Katungulu Mwendwa, Lalesso, Deepa Dosaja, to name just a few.

Our show has grown tremendously over the years and we have partnered with organizations like the New York based company – GenArt and FA254. We received a great amount of both local and international press and recognition.

As we celebrate our ten-year milestone, we hope to curate a show that takes the city by storm.

All funds from Tribal Chic 2019 are in aid of Rafiki Mwema.

Sousou & Maher Cissoko share a destiny shaped by music. Sousou grew up in the south of Sweden and fell in love with the kora when her father started gigging with the Gambian griot Alagie Mbye in the early ’90s. She has since spent a lot of time in West Africa learning to play the instrument and to sing in Wolof and Mandinka.

Maher Cissoko was born into a well-known griot family from Casamance, Senegal, and learnt to play kora at an early age. The couple met when Sousou was invited to continue her kora studies at the Cissoko house in Ziguinchor.

Since then they’ve married, formed the world’s best Swedish-Senegalese band, won a Swedish Folk & World Music award, released two albums and have been touring in Scandinavia, Senegal, South Africa and Zanzibar.
