About
On the occasion of the 2018 International Women’s Day. Zanzibari music group ‘Siti & the Band’ led by vocalist and oud player, Siti Amina Omar. Amina overcame family and societal pressures to study taarab music at the Dhow Countries Music Academy. Together with her cousin Rahma Ameir (violinist) and Gora Mohammed (qanun player), she founded ‘Siti & the Band’, following in the footsteps of legendary female musicians from Zanzibar: Siti Bint Saad and Bi Kidude.
