Call for the Train the Trainer Workshop in East Africa by Sept. 3 2012 @ the GoDown Arts


Applications are now open for Eastern & West African candidates to participate in regional TRAIN-THE-TRAINER sessions, part of a continent-wide training program in the thematic areas of Cultural Leadership, Governance and Entrepreneurship Training.

TRAIN-THE-TRAINER programme sessions will focus on Cultural Leadership, covering Arts Advocacy, Arts Marketing, Project Management and Arts Fundraising, and using toolkits on these subjects developed by Arterial Network.

This project is supported by the European Union’s Investing in People programme which is the main thematic instrument of the European Commission for support of programmes in the area of human and social development which includes “culture”.

Implementing project partners are The African Arts Institute as the lead partner (South Africa), The GoDown Arts Centre (Kenya), Groupe 30 Afrique (Senegal), Doual’art (Cameroon), Casamemoire (Morocco) and the Goethe-Institut (across Africa).

APPLICANTS FROM THE FOLLOWING AFRICAN COUNTRIES APPLY NOW, DEADLINE 3rd September 2012 TRAIN-THE-TRAINER programme, serving Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Rwanda, Mauritius and Egypt will launch in Nairobi during October 2012. The GoDown Arts Centre will host this training session.

It is aimed at training trainers in the use of Arterial Network toolkits, and for these trainers to return to their respective countries and/or organisations, to train others.

Candidates from the countries listed here are eligible to apply for five-day training hosted by The GoDown Arts Centre in Nairobi from 1st October– 5th October 2012

The course is limited to 15 participants.

The Project
The project’s ultimate goal is to advance the cultural dimension of development and cultural diversity in Africa through improved cultural governance by skilled leadership able to effectively formulate and implement policies and strategies, and to manage civil society organisations and public institutions. The project will target leading arts professionals, government officials responsible for culture, those responsible for implementing cultural policy and others. Skilled leadership and effectively managed policies will benefit artists and cultural entrepreneurs as well as the general public. The project will also cover short courses in cultural project management and skills such as IT and the Arts, Funding, Arts management and research.

Applications should include the following
1. A typed letter of motivation highlighting previous experience as a trainer and a commitment to working as a trainer;
2. Information pertaining to practical experience in at least one training area – advocacy, marketing, fundraising, project management – and please elaborate on your experience;
3. Two reference letters applicable to your training experience.

Note that Arterial Network membership would be an advantage. Twelve bursaries will be made available; please indicated clearly if you are applying for one, and motivate. ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED by 3rd September 2012, at the following email address info@thegodownartscentre.com

On 23rd August 2012, Pawa 254 will be hosting Stellar professional photographer, Georgina Goodwin.

Georgina is based in Kenya and is a Kenyan national by birth. She is a young, dynamic, self-taught photographer who is passionate about her work and subject matter reflected in her strong analytical style. Georgina focuses on issues spanning the range of poverty, health, gender covered by NGOs, in particular those connected to the environment and politics. She also does commercial photography such as interiors and product promotions.
