Fundraising Dinner for Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre, Oct 11 2012 @ Tribe Hotel
We would like to cordially invite you to a fundraising dinner, which we are organising for the Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre. The Centre is a children’s home, caring for orphans, street children and children from vulnerable families by providing them with a home and education.
We are raising funds to buy an Organic Greenhouse Kit (consisting of a greenhouse, seeds, organic fertilisers and pesticides and technical support), which would enable the Centre to grow all their vegetables and fruits themselves organically and under the guidance of a certified organisation. Apart from supplying them with food, the youth would be trained in organic farming and the Centre could sell whatever they do not need for themselves! A truly sustainable and worthy cause!
As you can see on the flyer below, the ticket price includes a welcome drink and three course dinner, as well as live music, courtesy of Brigitte Rakotomalala, a dance performance by Kebaya Moturi and acts by the acrobats and dancers of the Ruiru Rehabilitation Centre. The event is also generously supported by DJ RaveOlution.

SYNOPSIS
Frank cook ,having being taken ill with a rare complaint, has been booked into a private nursing home by his wife June for a week’s respite. Whilst there, he encounters the reverend Paul Latimer who is recovering from a heart transplant and whose odd behavior is beginning to alarm his wife, Sarah.
The young attractive Tracey might provide the answer. She is convinced that the vicar’s new heart belonged to her recently deceased lover Melvin, a fairground “wall of death” rider. Could it be that Paul has taken on Melvin’s personality traits as well as his heart? That again, perhaps he’s just suffering from the side of his medication? Frank, ever the cantankerous septic, is delighted by vicar’s fall from grace, while June does her best to rein in his detective work.

Opinion: The selection of three fellows for 1beat Program is evidence of #Kenya’s rising status as a cultural hub

What is 1beat?

OneBeat 2012 from Found Sound Nation on Vimeo.
OneBeatSM is an international music exchange that celebrates musical collaboration and social engagement through innovative people-to-people diplomacy. From September 10 – October 7, a group of exceptional young musicians from around the world will collaboratively write, record, produce, and perform original music in venues ranging from concert halls to city parks to rock clubs. In addition to creating new work, OneBeat Fellows will partner with community organizations, schools, and socially-engaged local musicians to offer workshops, performances, and public dialogues.
Ambassadors of Soft Power
Kenya is a bastion of sports especially track races and marathons but what is now emerging is that Kenya is also rising as a cultural hub. This is evident in selection of three musicians from Kenya out of the eight who represented Africa. The musicians who represented Kenya are;
1. Nina Ogot
2. Muthoni the Drummer Queen and
3. Kato Change
Other African countries represented are Democratic Republic of Congo (with two musicians), Nigeria, Mozambique and Senegal each with one representative.
NairobiNow takes this opportunity to congratulate these Kenyan trailblazers and wish them all the best in their endeavours.

Nairobi Festival of Solos and Duets: Presentation & Discussion by Jens Bjerregaard, Oct. 6 2012 @ Goethe

Dance Forum Nairobi in cooperation with Kenya Performing Arts Group and the Goethe-Institut, presents the Nairobi Festival of Solos and Duets Residency Edition 2012. Jens Bjerregaard, who will make a start, is best described as an architect of movement, with a natural instinct for structure, often inspired by contemporary art and design. He will present his 15 min solo show “Opaque” on the 6th October 2012.
As agreed with the organizers, his performance will start at 5:30 pm – so don’t get confused because of the information given on the posters. In addition, the participants of the already ongoing workshop will present their own short performance and Jared Onyango will be on stage as well.
