A L’OMBRE DE CORÉ
A l’ombre de Coré’ (‘In the shadows of Kore’ – the Greek Maiden) is a poetic hip hop dance by the French choreographer Mickaël Six and the talented dancer Sami Loviat-Tapie. The choreography presents a poetic dialogue between the body and light, between the real and the virtual. Like the Goddess Kore, the dancers take it in turns to confront their shadows.

The delicate music and the fluidity of movement make this a truly captivating show, an ingenious display of poetry in motion.

Dates: October 4-8, 2016
Venues: Goethe Institut and the Shifteye Gallery

About
New technologies and digitalization are influencing how modern societies run – everything from how we access goods and services to how we socialize are continuously being transformed. Computers and mobile phones are often considered necessary tools that are highly valued both at work and at home. With the good comes the bad – our online lives leave us vulnerable to potential security threats as well as open us up to challenges to our personal and societal well-being.

The Goethe-Institut Kenya, in collaboration with Mbithi Masya and Youth Knows No Limits (YKNL), is organizing a Digital Art Festival with the objective to create a forum for dialog, exchange and presentation of digital art.

Five artists have been asked to consider how we consume and interact in/with the digital sphere and how these influence or are influenced by traditional value systems and global trends. Through their medium of choice, they have been encouraged to bring their perspective and style in the exploration of digital possibilities to comment on the social and psychological implications of digital technologies.

The participating artists include Awuor Onyango, Bazil Ngode, Chris King, Melisa Allela and Lenny Njagih as well as Musa Omusi. The festival programme consists of screenings, talks, workshops, an exhibition of the artworks as well as the performance of “Winterreise” by the German artistic research and production collective Institut für angewandtes Halbwissen.

Dates: October 2-16, 2016
Venue: Alliance Française

About
For the 3rd year running, Craft Afrika is proud to present Afrika Handmade Gallery, an artisan and design installation for home + garden.

The 2 week event opens Sunday October 2nd and runs until 16th October 2016 (including Saturdays and Sundays) at Alliance Francaise, Nairobi. Entry is free.

Featuring a prefabricated living pod, 15 new home decor collections and fine art from one of Kenya’s leading contemporary art galleries, the event aims to strengthen domestic market opportunities for local home interior brands.

Factors such as a negative perception of the sector, weak distribution channels and general lack of awareness have long suffocated the ability of local entrepreneurs to reach their target markets.

“Through Afrika Handmade Gallery, we are able to tap into collective strength in addressing some of these common challenges” says Christine Gitau, the project coordinator.

Taking up two floors and garden of the venue, the installation offers a carefully curated experience, complete with gallery guides and a professionally developed exhibition catalog.

Dottie Anangwe, the event manager says of the exhibitor selection process, “we began selecting early in the year, and are very proud of those who made the final cut. They have all been working very hard to create something special, so don’t miss this opportunity to see something truly spectacular.” she adds.
