SARABI, the electric, engaging, emotional and hard hitting Kenyan band have been invited, in collaboration with Culture Connect, to perform at Roskilde Festival 2015 in Denmark (http://www.roskilde-festival.dk/ ).

Roskilde Festival is the largest music festival in Northern Europe and this year will be held on July 1-4, 2015, where SARABI will be playing alongside some of the world’s leading musicians, in a festival which will see 166 artists from 32 different countries perform. The tenth edition of the Lusophone Film Fest of Nairobi will be on the 30-May as of 5pm at the Goethe-Institut Nairobi. This session will pay homage to Manoel de Oliveira, the oldest film director in the World that died last month at 106 years-old and was still directing several films every year. We will show his first film from 1931, and one of his latest, along with two other shorts:

– I’m From Over There (Brazil, 2014, Sansara Buriti)
– I’ll See You When You Get There (Guinea-Bissau, 2005, Filipe Henriques)
– Labor on the Douro River (Portugal, 1931, Manoel de Oliveira)
– Blind Man’s Buff (Portugal, 1994, Manoel de Oliveira)

Recognised with international awards at film festivals around the globe, the cinema from the Portuguese-speaking world is still mostly unknown to the general public. This 240 million people linguistic community is a thriving one, promoting over 80 film festivals and cinema awards every year, with movies mostly consumed in the respective countries.

The Lusophone Film Fest is a showcase of the diversity of film production in the eight Portuguese-speaking countries spread across 4 continents. The festival presents multiple works (documentaries, animations, shorts and feature films), in sessions of several films from the different countries.

No one can deny that our relationship with Africa was from the very moment the forced migration of Africans to America began. Our Liberator Simon Bolivar expressed back in 1817 “we are more an extension of Africa than of Europe.” The Bolivarian process inspired by President Hugo Chavez since 1999 inserted Africa in the daily life of the Venezuelan people.

The month of May is for Venezuelans a referential date on which we claim the contribution of Africa to our independence and our cultural diversity. For Venezuelans, Africa is a very important continent of our historical legacy. From May 1795 to May 2015. 220 years of libertarian insurgency of José Leonardo Chirino. A libertarian insurrection of blacks who sought to eliminate slavery. An insurrection which set a historic precedent for the independence of Venezuela.

Schlachthofbronx is a DJ duo from Munich/Germany who produces and plays innovative multi genre club music. Besides being known as on point performers on club and festival stages, the guys also built their reputation with production and studio work with and for artists like Snoop Dogg, M.I.A., Major Lazer, Buraka Som Sistema, Bonde Do Role, and others. In the club they deliver a fast paced, eclectic mix of styles and genres, reflecting their various influences reaching from Dancehall/Reggae and Hip Hop over Booty Bass to Techno, Cumbia and UK Bass – amongst others.

Their new ten-track release titled Rave And Romance directly represents the diversity of their unique sound between rump shaking slow jams and bass-heavy rave tunes. Fellow ravers and romantics Nicky Da B, Warrior Queen, Bonde Do Role and candelilla got recruited for the release and added the shouts as well as the dirty talk. These guys play clubs, festivals, museums, tents, boats, floats, busses, strip joints and beer tents – it doesn’t matter where, Schlachthofbronx always starts a party. With their Rave And Romance formula – and their bag of custom made tracks and exclusives – Schlachthofbronx will continue to put happy and sweaty smiles upon peoples’ faces.

Supporting acts from Nairobi will be DJ Tendwa, Alai K and Just A Band. This event takes place in the context of the German Week 2015.
